About us

Jim Black Construction is a licensed general contractor specializing in the restoration of homes and businesses that have been damaged by smoke, fire, water, mold and other disasters. Family-owned and operated for more than 30 years, JBC currently has 25 employees servicing the entire Denver/Boulder Metro Areas. We have been designated as a "preferred contractor" by many major insurance companies. We have established long-term relationships with most local adjusters. In fact, insurance companies often ask our owner, Jim Black, to provide training seminars for their new adjusters on how to estimate the costs of reconstruction. We use the same estimating software as most insurance companies, so there are no financial discrepancies between our bid and what your insurance company is paying for. Emergency services are available 24-hours a day. We will be to your property within 90 minutes of your call. These services are performed by our crews using state of the art extraction and drying equipment. All technicians and Project Managers are certified through the IICRC. Water Damage: When your property is affected by a water loss, you need to act fast. Prolonging action will lead to secondary damage. You can count on our team to properly evaluate & mitigate your loss. Mold Remediation: We provide cost effective, reasonable approaches that are always in line with the IICRC S520 Standard and Reference Guide. We provide air quality testing, mold identification and remediation. Fire and Smoke Damage: We know that this can be an overwhelming experience for you. Our professional staff will walk you through each phase of restoration from the initial evaluation of your home or building and working with your insurance provider to ensure your property is returned to its pre-loss condition, to the inventory, cleaning and pack out of your belongings, layout, design, modifications, product selections, reconstruction and final clean-up phase. Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning and Repairs: Our competitively priced carpet and fabric cleaning programs utilize state of the art equipment and environmentally friendly products. Our certified technicians can also fix loose seams and repair holes and burns in your carpet. Jim Black Construction was a finalist for 2 consecutive years for the Colorado Ethics in Business Award presented by the Colorado Ethics in Business Alliance. We were also one of three finalists selected from over 458 companies for the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau's Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.

I cannot say enough good things about Jim Black Construction. They were replacing the roofs on the townhome roofs when they notice that waster was leaking in my townhome. Kyle called me and let me know and by the time I got home they were tearing out the soaked walls, the soaked carpet and tearing up the kitchen floor which was buckled. They put in fans for three days and then fought the insurance company to pay for my lodging because they were tearing everything out. They finished the house beautifully and did things "right" - like painting the entire ceiling in the livingroom/dinning room/kitchen so it looked right. Everything was done very efficiently and excellent. They moved the furniture out to my garage and then moved it back in - I didn't have to do anything!.
Description of Work: replace pipe to bathroom sink,, replace, drywall, carpet, wood floor, paint.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE MORONIC CLOWNS!!! This is for work "done" a few months ago. • They're rude and disrespectful beyond belief right from the very start, but naturally more so toward the end, and intolerably so after I had finally had enough and terminated their dumbasses. • Would only do 30 minutes of work a day sometimes, and only did 0-3 days of work a week. So it was like they moved into and took over my house for 3 or so months when it could have been done in less than 2 weeks. • Barged into my house at 6 am after I let them put a pad lock key storage on my front door so they could do the work when I wasnt home. And that was also after they were told not to come early that day if at all due to an illness and personal issue. • Left a giant orange stain on my driveway from seting up a moble workshop there instead of in the available garage without my permission in the least. I discovered their vandalism after coming home from commuting back from school. They then agreed it was their responsibility and to clean it up in order to get me to agree to let them continue the work, right up until when I fired them of course. Its a simple example of nature in action: when you create an action with your lazy, incompetent, and ridiculous disregaurd for your paying clients privacy, property, and even dignity, then you simultaneously create the opposite reaction of getting your sorry ***** fired even with job almost done. You thought you could get away with being arrogant AHOLES just cause it was almost finished... you thought wrong. You get back what you deserve eventually. Enjoy your karma. To the rest of you just looking for the review info, sorry for the most undeniably deserved swearing and if your insurance company tells you to get it done with jim black like mine did after a plumbing leak, tell them ABSOLUTELY NO WAY!!!!

Although Jim Black's initial estimate of time-to-complete was much shorter than the final time taken, all efforts were made to carry out the work expeditiously. As it happened, sourcing the same underlay for the rug as had been damaged in the flood took longer than anyone expected, and was not the fault of the contractor. When the work was finished, the basement had been returned to the good condition it had been in before the accident. We were very pleased with the standard of work performed.
Description of Work: When our finished basement was flooded, our home insurance company authorized repair and rebuilding. Jim Black Construction undertook the project, including ensuring no damp remained in the basement, repairing damaged walls, relaying vapor barrier, insulation, floor joists, underfloor, baseboards, trim, repainting and carpeting.

5/31/12 10:50 am. Received call from Kyle Ballew stating he could not come out until early next week to scope area. I informed him that I needed someone out this week. Could not take more time off for work for this at this time. Asked if someone else at their company could come out instead. He stated he will have someone get with me by tomorrow 6/1/12. Stated he would send me email so I can attached copy of insurance paperwork.11:50 am Jimmy called & stated that Kyle will be out tomorrow 6/1/12. He was unaware that I already spoken with Kyle & that there was an issue with our schedule. He confirmed that Kyle will be here but could not provide time.11:53 am Kyle called and stated that he re-arranged his schedule and will be here tomorrow 6/21/12 @ 7:30 am. I was left with the impression that he was a little irate and not happy about this.6/1/127:30 am Kyle & Justin Zarecki arrived at my home. I received their business card on arrival, but I asked to see their ID's to confirm their name match was is on card. He made it cleared that he did not like this request, but did conformed to request. During walk around, he informed me that they will be using lock box. Informed him that I did not feel comfortable with that and stated that someone will be here at all times during this process. Informed that their company only works with lock box. Asked if I could have the name of the people that would be coming into my home before they enter. He stated they do not know their names because they sub contract out. Asked if there will be a supervisor or foremen on site during this time. Was told not necessary. Was instructed if not comfortable with this arrangement that I should interview other companies. (I was left with the impression that he would be quite please if they did not get this job. He didn't want to be here anyway.)I will not be hiring this company and I called my adjuster and told them of my experience with Kyle that was refired by them.

No services were provided, other trhan an inspection of the damage, butt as of January 14, 2012, no bid.
Description of Work: we had water damage from a bad roof that leaked into a large window in the family room. Our insurance agent recommended Jim Black Construction Co. They were prompt on inspecting the window for water damage and their divisional manager promised us a bid on the window and stated that the boss, Jim Black headed up the roofing and construction part of the company. He would tell Jim that we needed to get the roof fixed and he would contact us and get someone out for a bid. We have received neither a bid for the water resoration for the window, nor a call for a roofer. We have since accepted a bid from Rocky Mountain Roof Docrtors.
