the NEW Furnace they installed quit working on the coldest morning of the year (-15 below zero) -- called them and they did come right out. found part to be unresponsive so they replaced it...charged $75 just to show up and other $75 to fix it plus the price of the part.

Fast forward to next winter and the SAME scenario (coldest night) and it quit working again. another guy came out and found same part unresponsive...needed a stiff piece of wire which I provided and he ran it in to the part (that was previously replaced) and unclogged it as it had some encrustation in it that was blocking the vacuum valve. once cleared of the encrustation it worked fine. charged us another $150 for 5 minutes of work.

fast forward to the next winter...coldest night...same problem and I took the same piece of wire and cleared the valve of the encrustation and it worked just fine...no charge for my services. now every winter I run the wire in the valve and clean it going into the winter and I have not had 'any' issues whatsoever!!



bottom line is that they did NOT need to replace it the first time but did and I suspect it ended up on another furnace in the area after he cleaned it up...charged us just to show up and then again for the 5 minute job...plus parts. I have NO problem paying for services but to charge $150 for a service call and a 5 minute fix is crazy.

we have since used 'other' plumbers/heating/AC in the area and NOBODY has charged us like that. everybody else is very reasonable.

My wife was complaining about the lack of heat in the family room, so I called A-1 Heating and Cooling in Rifle, Colorado. They responded quickly and did a superior job identifying and correcting the program.
