Horticulture Services

This was only the second professional landscaper we'd ever employed, for our first new-build home. We interviewed several landscapers before choosing Hort-Services. Mr. Hothan helped us prioritize our landscaping to meet our neighborhood requirements, as to which projects a "pro" should do and which would be more budget-friendly for us to do ourselves. We initially appreciated his knowledge of plant materials, the fact that he has a degree in this field, and the way he incorporated our desires and ideas, as well as his nice, creatively-unique ideas, into the plan for "phase one" of our front yard plus backyard sod-area. 

Scheduling was somewhat erratic as to when the crew would arrive and on what days. The start up date was later than what we'd hoped for, but this is a small company with smaller resources and we were personally willing to allow for the occasional change of plan. (Sometimes the crew came earlier or later than the owner said they would, or on different days than what had been discussed and scheduled.) The project took a little longer than we had hoped for. They were, however, respectful and pleasant and answered questions when we asked. When we planted trees ourselves, Mr. Hothan and the crew gave us helpful advice as to how to plant, etc, to do it right. We appreciated this very much. He is a pleasant, easy-going person who is very willing to explain how systems work (sprinklers) and will return to rectify problems. 

This being said, we have had numerous issues with the sprinkler systems, esp the spray zones. Parts of the heads, tubing, etc, have not operated correctly, were positioned wrong per the slope, or parts broke/leaked. Mr. Hothan was late to return calls regarding our issues more than once, but when he did, he did return to rectify the problems we have had thus far. He also has returned several times to patiently re-explain the timer box (sprinklers) and help us figure out the best settings. We are still tweaking this due to the severe weather we've had this season and not all issues have been resolved. 

We did think this landscaper a personable guy who has been in this business long-term; he works hard and tries to give quality results. Perhaps our specific project had unusual "glitches" and parts-failures that were out of the norm. Overall, our experience was mixed.
