The gravel prices seemed reasonable and they had a good selection.  Their delivery schedule was flexible, and the delivery arrived right on time.  They called ahead several times, including as the driver was leaving.

We felt that the delivery fee ($65) was high, especially since a fuel surcharge (around $10) was also added.  We did not shop around, so I don't know how these fees compare to the competition, but they seemed a bit excessive for an in-town delivery.

I also docked a point on professionalism because our experience while placing the order.  While I have no specific complaints, the professionalism of their employees could have been better.  The way they talked to us and treated us while placing our order would have been fine if we were landscaping contractors who were familiar with the products and ordering/delivery processes, but as individual consumers, we felt they could have been friendlier, more polite, and more careful in answering our questions and explaining things to us.

Both of these are minor complaints and did not significantly impact our overall experience.  We would definitely recommend Pioneer and would order from them again.

They quickly loaded us and had us on our way.

In terms of customer service, I felt that the sales people in the Pioneer office were always very helpful in determining how much material I needed at any given time. I never bought too much/too little of anything. In terms of delivery, they have one of the best drivers I have ever seen in action and she just happens to be a woman. We have a small driveway and she drives a big truck. It would have been very easy for her to drive over our lawn, break our sprinkler heads, etc., but she managed to move her vehicle with grace and accuracy. The only glitch that we had was on one occasion, a dispatcher screwed up, which delayed a significant delivery. They gave us a nominal 5% off delivery.

We were very happy with utilizing Pioneer Sand Company. They had the largest selection of rock and the best prices around. We were able to schedule the delivery on short notice and had the rock placed exactly where we needed it.
