I hired Mr. O?Rourke in November 2013, to install some exterior brick on my home and some brick pavers on the 7' x24' floor of my sunroom, including one step into the house. Upon completion (Nov. 30) Mr. O?Rourke was paid in full for the job according to the contract.
Shortly after the work was completed, we noticed that throughout the entire floor, the paver layout was bowed up to and frac12;? across the 7? width. In addition, the pavers on the floor were not parallel to the pavers on the step making the layout look very skewed. This was not noticeable until after the mortar was removed from the pavers and the joints had dried.
We had Thanksgiving company who left on Dec. 2, following which my wife was ill for a few days, then we were out of town from December 11-29. Immediately upon our return, my wife called and spoke to Mr. O?Rourke to inform him of the issue. He agreed to come look at the floor on January 2, 2014 and stated that he would call first. We waited at the house all day but he did not call or show up. On each of the next three days I left him a voice mail asking him to return my call, but as of January 9, 2014 he had failed to contact us or leave a message.
At that time we filed a BBB complaint, and he responded electronically via the BBB website with numerous excuses why he never came over to look at the floor, never answered or returned our ensuing calls. He said he had no responsibility to remedy the situation. Since we had paid him, the contract was completed. Per his request, we sent him photos of the crooked floor. He responded with more excuses why the pavers on the floor were not straight.
The brick job he completed on the exterior of the house was acceptable. However, the sunroom floor is very poor workmanship and every time we look at, we regret not examining the job before we paid him.
