"This is out of the blue, and very strange. The individuals name is spelled wrong and it looks like something that possibly an online foreigner wrote. We did this very small job for these nice folks over 10 years ago and there were no problems back then. No idea what this is about or why it suddenly popped up here like this. Suspicious. We will reach out and touch base with this old client and see if they wrote this."
"Thank you so much. We wish every client was just like you. We feel privileged to be given the opportunity when we are entrusted to remodel anyone's home. It is a BIG responsibility, and the expectations are always high. We also realize that it is also a real challenge for each of our clients to stay calm and be patient while their most important investment is being dramatically altered, especially while they try to live in it. Some clients handle it well, and some struggle with it. I still marvel at how you and your amazing wife approached every single day with such positive energy and gratitude. To weather a whole house remodel while being sequestered into two bedrooms with a infant and your rescue pets for half of it is beyond impressive. We appreciate you both and cannot say enough about how amazing you guys are to work for. You made our job easier by communicating, having products on site when needed, making changes in a timely manner, and showing appreciation when you saw a job being done well. Every major project has a lot of moving parts and some minor surprises, highs/lows, and the novelty wears off after a few weeks. Keeping our clients happy and on an even keel throughout the process is sometimes the most challenging part. You guys were so amazing that we were able to just relax and be carpenters, focusing on the work to be done. Thank you for that. It really meant a lot. We just wish that you had more projects for us to do (since we remodeled your whole house, there's not much chance of that :) P.S. Your rescued homing pigeon that adopted us and kept landing on our heads was pretty funny too."
"Thank you so much for taking the time to give us a review and for your kind words. We love you guys and look forward to many more years of friendship and doing work for you and your friends and family."
"Thank you guys, as you know we love working for you. Let us know when you're ready for a third project. :)"
"Thank you so much. We really enjoyed working with you on your whole house remodel. Please call or email anytime if we can do anything for you at all."
"Thank you, and we appreciate your candor. Sometimes its the smallest details that matter the most. I hope that our follow up visits took care of everything that you wanted. We will continue to try and improve, and your feedback is helping us to do that."
"Thank you so much. It was great working for you, and having your herd of rescued dogs meet us at the gate every day. :)"
"Thank you for your kind words. I really did enjoy working on your house and sleep is important! :)"
My wife and I are very pleased with the final result.
"Thank you very much, we really liked coming out to the country and doing this second project for you. I think we've remodeled everything but the garage now. :)"
"Thank you for your kind review. We strive to provide more value than we charge for, and it is always pleasant to be recognized. It was a pleasure to be at your service."
"Thank you so much. We loved working for you!"
"I love this client, and I would work for her again, but's she's no push over. She has a PhD and trains surgeons, so you can imagine the discipline and precision that she is used to expecting. By the time we got a "Go" from the client, and had permits approved, we started this job late in the year, before Thanksgiving, and the Christmas holidays (when a lot of our crew take time off for family), and the inclement winter weather was sub-optimal for building an addition; that's why it took longer than expected (I give a range of timing initially, and we went over the high range by about 3-4 weeks. Since the work was isolated from her house, she didn't seem to mind at the time). Like on most jobs, we did a lot of extra work (including taking care of the boiler work mentioned, even though it was not part of our contract, and that's were some of the additional costs came from; we certainly never charged any money that wasn't approved of in advance, in writing by the client). After we were done, this client called a year later with a leak in her old plumbing (nothing to do with us, but we were her "Go To" when she needed help), and I drove to her house that night personally (at 8 pm) to close off a secondary valve, and I met my plumber there the next day at 9am...which I have never charged her for (either my work, parts, or the plumber and his helper). No job is perfect, and it is sometimes a persons standards for giving ratings that affect it as much as the work; I think a B from this very discerning client is an A from most people, and even though we could've done better, I don't know if anyone would've gotten an A (she had someone else build a beautiful detached garage a year earlier and had nothing but criticism for them...she just has higher standards than most of us, which I'll definitely appreciate if I ever need surgery). I would work for her again, and knowing her better, update her every morning with what we're doing, as well as put my top guy on the project (she's right, the guy who headed up her addition had no personality and has since been let go). We should be better, and hopefully are now."
When a minor issue arose (which happens on every remodeling project), Ted immediately let us know, gave us options, and followed through with what our decision was. The entire time we were working with Apple I felt the utmost respect was given to our home, and to the job they were doing. At the end of the project, instead of skipping out like we have had some contractors do, Ted had us create a punchlist of the last minor issues that needed to be addressed (paint touchups, etc). This truly sealed the opinion we had of Apple, and of Ted, because it showed that he truly cared about us being a happy customer.
"Thank you for your business and your wonderful approach to having your home remodeled. It was a genuine pleasure to work on your home, we couldn't ask for a better client. If you ever need anything, just give us a call and we'll be there."
"Thank you, we loved working for you."
"Thank you, we look forward to doing great remodeling for you."
"Thank you for the work and the kind words, and we hope to see you again soon."
"We have never worked for this member except for a promotional design. This member is a friendly elderly gentleman and sometimes the sticker shock is a bit worse with folks from "the greatest generation." I set the appointment immediately, arrived on time, gave a full consultation with no sales pitch, and took measurements. Then I had an addition design and quote in his hands within three days, and gave a 15% discount on the remodel. That was really all that I could do. The cost of the addition design was $199....that'[Member Information Removed] inexpensive. I really liked this member a lot, he introduced me to his beautiful wife who suffers from Alzheimer'[Member Information Removed], and he treats her so wonderfully it reminded me of the movie, "The Notebook." I admire people like that, and I wish them both all the best."
"We have never worked for this client or even spoken to him. He gave us an F for no return call, but scouts honor, we never received a call from this person. I have all voicemails go through Google Voice, which converts them to text and emails and texts them to me. I have no doubt that this member believes that he called us, but I have no record nor message? I left a card on his door and sent him a letter (AL won't give me his ph# or email), and I hope that he calls me back. I'll keep trying. I get a lot of calls, some from folks who I know in advance I can't help, but everyone gets, and deserves, the courtesy of at least a return call. I or my telephone service messed up, then I apologize."
They completed all the work in less than 3.5 weeks. For a small fee he had someone that works with him help me picked out the hardware (faucets, bathtub, etc) which was very helpful. I liked that I picked & purchased everything from vanities, tiles, lights, etc so I could purchase what I wanted and if it went a little over what he had budgeted that was ok because it was my decision. Any time I had questions from the work they were doing to a purchase item Ted always provided the information in a timely matter. Even after the work started I had a couple minor changes I wanted to do and Ted would provide what the meant to the timeline and if there would be additional cost so I could decide before agreeing for them to move forward. Just 2 weeks ago, they came back to put in the sink drains (what I wanted was back ordered) I wanted and take out the temporary ones they had put in; I didn't get the bill for that part of the work until is was completed.
One of the reasons I had chosen Apple Remodeling they had remodeled something for one of my sisters and did a excellent job for her too.
"Thank you! It is great to have you as a client, and I hope that we can do more work for you in the near future. :)"
"I loved working for the folks. Thank you for the kind words. :)"

longer work on old homes. I know our 80+ year old home gave them a lot of
surprises and grief. Apples inability to estimate and manage time gave us an
equal amount of grief.
The planning of our project went well. Ted was very
professional and knowledgeable and understood what we wanted to do and how to
do it, or so we thought. His bid was significantly lower than our other bids.
This should have been warning sign number one to us. The contract we signed was professionally done
and explained all aspects of the job etc. The only thing missing was a
Liquidated Damages clause, which probably would have kept things on schedule
better. Look it up if you don?t know what it is. Basically, it?s a set penalty
for delays. This is something I will not overlook in the future.
From the beginning, we were told we would be the only
project for our crew and they would be on site everyday. This appealed to us greatly as we have a
small toddler and would be relocated to our basement for the duration of the
project. While the crew was extremely nice, their presence was not as
consistent as expected. Our days ranged from having a large crew of 6 or 7
working a full day to multiple days with only one guy working a few hours, and
then leaving or having no one show at all. We quickly realized we were not the
only large job for our crew to complete. We were given a timeline of 4-6 weeks
at the beginning. In the end, the project took, not the worst-case scenario 6
weeks, but 13 complete weeks. That was from start, till the work was approved
and the last check was signed.
Our main focus, besides the remodel, was to minimize the
construction time, dust and disruption for our toddler and this is ultimately
what caused the most frustration. I can understand the timeline growing 25% but
it more than doubled. Its hard to plan your life when you have a project with
an unknown end date.
The second biggest issue was simply misestimating the scope
of work. Due to this misestimating, things were taking way longer than
expected. I can only assume labor costs were mounting and this led to a string
of bad decision and corner cutting. This was heavily apparent in the selection
of subcontractors. The electrical work was originally scoped at 3 days. It
eventually took the electrician over 5 weeks to complete his work, 5 weeks!
This makes sense cause he only worked 2 or 3 hours a day typically. There were
other bad subs as well. The other main sub failure was our first floor sub
contractor. After he left swirl marks in finished floor, the team at Apple
tried to convince us that is was fine and that we were being irrational. We
could see the swirls 30ft away and we were being irrational, hilarious.
I could go on and on detailing the 13 weeks but I am not
going to. It was painful for us and I no longer want to relive it. I will say,
in the end, we are happy with the finished product. It?s not an ultra high
quality job but it is nice. I am still not sure it was worth it. The one I do
know is that next time I would pay 20% more to have a better contractor that is
better equipped to quote and finish the job.
"Summarized, this member just stated that we did a good job, but took too long. Some people do not handle remodeling well, especially with a small toddler and stressful jobs of their own. This ancient home had a lot of surprises crop up, which is one reason that we had to adjust our timeline. What this member did not say, was that despite all of the extra work, we never increased the price, instead we took responsibility for the project, and took care of the non-conforming issues at our own expense (including the floor that is mentioned, we re-sanded and re-finished it a second time, at our expense, over two very small blemishes that could only be seen if you showed up at 7:45 am and caught the light just right...on an 80 year old floor). I wish them well, but I also wish that people would look at their projects from the perspective of the remodeler for about 5 minutes before giving us a review... an F when we took on a tough job, did it well, under budget, and our only sin is taking longer than any of us expected? Ok, not perfect, maybe a B, but an F? We're easy targets here, but we really worked hard to please these folks. Should we be better? Probably. Could they have been better clients? Probably. In the end, we are all just doing the best that we can. The most important thing is, they got what they wanted, and are enjoying our work, even if it took longer than expected. Sometimes that's all that we get out of it, and that's ok, I truly hope that they enjoy their "new" home for many, many years. :)"
"We have never worked for this client except for a $49 promotional design. This member was nice to work with. Although initially we expressed concerns about her being so far outside of our service area, once we met it was worth it, and things went nicely."
