You will not find a better craftsman out there. Though Jeff is a master carpenter by trade, his stone work is better than what the stone masons are putting in multi-million dollar homes. A couple statements about Jeff's work... His focus is on doing things right (not cheap or fast), his quality of work is unmatched, and his eye for design and function makes him the ultimate tradesman to have on your project. He is one of the few men you can trust in his work (behind the walls, so to speak) and his recommendations and advice. Jeff brought in over 300 tons of road-base and top soil as the base for our patio (pic #1), Jeff built two concrete pads (1 for a BBQ pit, the other a stand alone fireplace) and concrete base for the steps leading to the patio doors. The real craftsmanship came in cutting and placing the flagstone. Jeff cut nearly every piece of stone on 4 sides (and none of them straight cuts or unnatural looking cuts - you will find many stone masons take the easy road and just cut straight lines because they are easier to cut and break - straight cuts give you a very geometric look (like tiles). It takes more time and effort to cut natural curves and lines, which was Jeff's approach. Jeff also suggested and build over 60 feet of 1 foot high raised flower beds using the same flagstone (dry stack) for 3 flower beds and two tree wells. We still have a few projects left to complete our patio, however, Ward Construction created a base for us that is perfect and better than what we had hoped.

Jeff traveled to several lumber yards to find the best cedar boards and posts for the project. Jeff designed the pergola and built it exactly how we discussed. We had the opportunity at various junctures to make changes in height, spacing, shape, etc. Jeff also ordered the braces that attach to the cedar posts and are embedded into the concrete piers. The pergola is solidly built and beautiful.

The doors are simply amazing and Jeff made putting a huge hole in the side of my house seem like child's play. No cut corners, just hard, smart, professional work. Jeff build the 4 doors (two doors and screen doors) with a walnut veneer finish. Contrary to what many folks (such as myself) believe, solid doors are not as durable, strong, and weather resistant as a well built set of laminated wood doors. Jeff is trustworthy, easy to talk with, a perfectionist, artist, and someone who takes pride in the work he performs. I cannot say enough good about him. His schedule fills up because of it. If you have a job you want done well... Ward Construction is who you want.

Jeff had done all the finish work (door jams, windows, floorboards, etc.) in our remodeled house. During that time we found Jeff to be 1. hard working, 2. conscientious, 3. creative, and most of all, 4. trustworthy. My wife and I travel a fair amount for work, so it was important to have someone we could trust in our house and someone we felt would make good decisions if we weren't around to provide guidance. The arched entryway is not true (a perfect, symmetrical arch). So rather than risk damaging the house Jeff compensated to fit the jam into the existing arch. The doors themselves are, without question, true, plum, and as perfect as a set of doors can be. Jeff applied I don't know how many layers of linseed oil to the naturally beautiful grain and color of the cedar he used. In order to make the doors bullet proof, he epoxied seven layers of wood with a 1/4" veneer of cedar as the finish. Like a true professional, Jeff used the same piece of cedar to create the doors so that the grain matches and the doors are bookends to each other (something that was common place with professional cabinetry but is now hard to find). Jeff also steam-bent the jam to fit into the arch. A tedious process but one that pays off with durability and strength. These doors, I'm sure of it, will be the finest doors we will ever have had made. Jeff is an artist with wood and comes to you highly recommended. Jeff can do just about anything, but his specialty is woodworking.
