initially fine. Our Insurance Company found a defect in the roofing job done by Prime Roofing. After calling them to alert them to this issue, I was met with nothing but delays. SIX months after my emails to them, I still had not heard a thing and I had to get firm with them to get some resolution. I generated an inspection with the manufacturer of the shingles. After that was done, Prime insisted they had to be here for that inspection or they would not help us any further. This was a complete surprise to us. I even let them know I was in communications with the manufacturer, yet they decided not to attend the inspection. Now they claim they have nothing to do with this issue and have refused to communicate and refused to accept any responsibility. Communications with their office manager were always met with sarcasm, delays, blaming and shirking responsibility. They appear to have no understanding of how to communicate with a customer. Now have left us with no recourse.
Response from Prime Roofing
"Prime Roofing Inc. endeavors to provide quality roofing and restoration services at the highest standards. In this instance Prime Roofing Inc. worked to identify alongside the owner and his insurance a known manufacturer defect that is unrelated to Prime Roofing Inc.'s workmanship or quality standards. Upon identifying the defect Prime Roofing Inc. was the one who contacted the manufacturer on the homeowner's behalf and provided them with the photographs of the damage, evidence of the defect, and the original date of installation. As in all claim cases the manufacturer will contact the homeowner and set a time to inspect the property. Prime Roofing Inc. notified the homeowner that we needed to be present to appropriately represent the homeowner and highlight the known defect on the property to which the homeowner only informed us "he was in contact with the manufacturer". During the waiting period to hear from the manufacturer the homeowner would also call stating the wait was exacerbating and attempt to blame the company. Unfortunately, Prime Roofing Inc. does not control nor is empowered to affect the speed at which the manufacturer handles their claim process. Several weeks later we received an angry email from the homeowner stating that the manufacturer was refusing the claim after they had inspected the property. Prime Roofing Inc. had requested to be present and the homeowner failed to notify us and had become belligerent. It became obvious that the best option for Prime Roofing Inc. was to suggest the homeowner find a different company and terminate working further on the case to avoid damaging both the company's reputation and the fragile relationship that existed between the homeowner and ourselves. As a result the homeowner became increasingly hostile writing belligerent emails stating that we should have had better contact with the manufacturer, even though we had informed him to notify us on of the inspection date in email and any communications to be forwarded to remain involved in the claim. We have countless records showing instances in which the homeowner failed to follow instructions, and as a result is looking to attack the companies reputation less we "fix" the issue. Prime Roofing Inc. guarantees and warranties all our roof installations for a 5 year period against workmanship caused problem. This homeowners roof was installed over 10 years ago, and passed the regional building departments inspection showing that the roof met regional code requirements and was installed to the manufacturer's installation instructions. The roof is not under Prime Roofing Inc.'s warranty yet we worked to assist the customer as best as possible without a contingency contract to assure the roof would be replaced by our company in the end. The homeowner now believes we are responsible to satisfy his needs regardless of the monetary or emotional cost to the company and staff. Prime Roofing Inc. is willing to provide all information and documentation to the homeowners next roofing company to assist them in caring for the customers needs."

Prime Roofing was excellent in communicating the work that was being done and they also took care of all the required documents and leg work from the insurance companies. The work performed met the standards that were expected and all of the subcontractors that they used were friendly and professional.

This roofer came out to let us know if we had any hail damage. I was very impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. He stated that he noticed a little damage from hail, but nothing that needed to be taken care of now. He told us how much it would cost to repair, but also stated that if it was his roof, he would not worry about it. I appreciate his honesty and that he could have tried to sell us his service. I will definitely give him a call when I actually do need to have work done on the roof.

We had no complaints at all, although a neighbor did mention the language some of the workers were using. Passed inspection and have had no problems. Cleanup was thorough. Work was done quickly and efficiently.

Besides the high quality workmanship and responsiveness, it is worth mentioning that the work crew was disciplined and respected our property. Not one of our flowers was broken nor our path solar lights! They were very thorough in cleaning up the old shingle pieces and nails as well, with only a few remaining all around the entire house (in the bushes, flower and berry gardens and grass). In fact, one comment I made after the job was completed and everyone was gone was that looking around it was difficult to envision that an entire work crew had been here removing and replacing an entire roof on the house, patio and one on the detached garage (now a workshop) because there was simply no sign of it!!
For the first time in my life (71 years) this time the mortgage company took all the insurance money and told us how to do things! This has required a coordinated effort with the Office Manager at Prime Roofing as well, and she has been equally helpful and cooperative in getting the paperwork and pay coordination part of this evolution accomplished (we're still at it). Without that, this also could have been much more difficult.

Heath gave us an estimate for the above work on 11/20/10. He was prompt, professional, and courteous. The estimate was consistent with what our insurance company had estimated, and he assured us that although they contract out the actual roof replacement work, all contractors were insured and he could provide documentation of that if necessary. Work began on 12/10/10 (a Friday). Although the job was supposed to be completed in one day, it bled into Saturday. None of the workers appeared to speak English. Unfortunately, the roof failed the first inspection by the county building inspector. When I notified Prime Roofing that they had failed, they promptly sent someone out to fix the problem. He called in advance, was prompt and courteous, and completed the repairs quickly. Gutter installation happened at a later date and went fine. After that, we noticed that some of the new shingles on the front corner of the garage were coming up. This repair took several phone calls to get addressed. When someone did come out to repair it, he did not call first to schedule a time, did not speak any English, did not seem to know what work he was supposed to be doing, or even who he worked for. This seemed to call into question some of the assurances Heath had given us about their contractors. Needless to say, this was disconcerting, and gave us a very bad feeling about this company. I called and left a very angry voice mail regarding this situation. Although Heath called back fairly quickly to try to resolve the situation, the fundamental problem seems to be the way most roofing companies do business. They contract out the actual installation work, and there is not even a representative from the company on site to oversee the workers or interact with the homeowners. This business model is not unique to this company, but it does not create a happy experience for the customer. As a result of this experience, I gave the company a "C", as I believe that their performance is about average for roofers in this area, and certainly, I would not rate the overall experience as "good." For this reason, I would probably not hire this company again. I would take the time to find a roofing company, that at a minimum, knows its contractors well, and ideally, has a company representative on site at least at the beginning and end of the job to (a) make sure the workers know what they are supposed to be doing; and (b) inspect the quality of work. I should add that the roof did pass on the second inspection by the building department.

Pricing was the best of the estimates we got, and the roofing product installed seems to be excellent. It was the workers who came to the house that we had problems with. One or more of the roofers entered our home and used an upstairs toilet, while my wife was teaching music lessons in the basement. The company denied that it could have been their workers, but certain evidence in the toilet bowl made it obvious that it was indeed someone from Prime's crew. Now, 8 months later, and after 2 visits by the city inspector, and 2 visits by Prime's workmen attempting to correct the situation, the roof still has not passed the permit inspection. There are still exposed nail heads.

Chris, the Prime roofing representative, was very professional and very prompt. He even helped me out with some insurance questions, as he seemed sure that insurance would cover our damage based upon his experience and appraisal of the roof. This was great news, as it turns out, because they did! A $1,000 deductible was sure better than $5,000 out of pocket! Anyhow, once we got the ball rolling and we picked out a shingle color, they (Prime) showed up the very next day, with a small army of roofers, and knocked the job off (completely) in about 8 hours! We don't have a very large house, or roof, but I was still very impressed.

Prime Roofing (Peter Moran) submitted a very competitive bid in comparison with 4 other local roofing contractors. We were impressed with the knowledge of Mr. Moran concerning what needed to be done to properly replace our existing shake shingle roof. This was a major factor in selection of a contractor. The workmen showed up on time and were very careful and efficient in removing the old shingles and underlayment. New underlayment material was promptly installed as the old material was removed. This was important as unexpected spring snow temporarily interrupted the work on two occasions. Waterproof underlayment was installed on all roof edges and in all valleys. Pipe vent caps and roof vents were replaced as the new fiberglass asphalt shingles were installed. A minor problem was encountered as the shingle delivery truck was unable to gain access that would permit placement of the shingles on the roof with their extension boom. All shingles were hand carried up on to the roof. Prior to beginning the project, Mr. Moran provided certificates of liability insurance and Workers Compensation insurance. Upon completion of the project, lien waivers for materials and labor were provided. Additionally, a warranty certificate was provided for the Owens-Corning shingles used on the job. All in all, the job went very well and was completed promptly and satisfactorily.

Great! The rep. (Larry) was an adjuster and assisted us with all the paperwork and as far as the actual roof goes it only took one day and they were able to get to us in 2 weeks as promised. Roof looks great and no leaks, and no surprise charges!!

During recent rain storms, water was found dripping from ceiling. Insurance company advised me to contact a roofer and another company to repair damages. Representatives from Prime Roofing came out, crawled onto the roof and discovered that the builder had failed to properly install flashing in the area of the leak. Crew showed up a couple days later and new flashing was installed and problem was resolved.
