Out of 5 job bids, Bill happened to come in the lowest.  I did not make my choice on cost, but how well the contractor(s) understood what I wanted.  Bill and I were on the same page from beginning to end.  I wanted the deck to fit in with the landscape, which in my case meant fitting the deck in between several large pines.  Bill understood that I wanted to impact the natural setting the little as possible.  The deck was exactly as I had envisioned it, only better.  Some nice touches that were done at no additional charge.  Very professional, updates on progress during the job, and completion of the job exactly as stated in the contract.

This was a small side job for them, but I was very pleased with the finished product.  I was looking for something to dress up the curb appeal on my home.  I knew what I wanted and they delivered more than I expected.  They were very meticulous and careful about how they built what I requested and even though it was a small job to them, they didn't take it lightly.  I would definitely recommend them and will use them again for future jobs.

The job consisted of removing the existing deteriated deck flooring, replaceing deteriated floor joists and rebuilding existing steps.



Creekside proceeded on the back deck by (1) removing all the existing deck flooring, (2) evaluating the integrity of the underlying floor joists, (3) replacing all defective joists with new treated materials - approximately 50%, (4) installing Trex brand flooring on the entire deck, (5) installed Trex on the top railing - salvaging nearly all the existring railing materials, and finally (6) rebuilding the stairway with 3 new support stringers to replace the two existing stringers and installing Trex flooring on the steps.



In addition, they replaced the existing front steps almost entirely by removing 3 deteriating support stringers and replacing them with 5 new treated stringers and installing Trex flooring to replace the existing redwood steps.



The job started on time exactly as scheduled and proceeded continuously until completed earlier than predicted. Cleanup was very satisfactory and all old materials promptly removed from the jobsite. The new deck and steps are noticably stronger and more stable than prior to this replacement, as well as being more fireproof and less maintenance intensive. We would definitely use Creekside again as the need arises.

Creekside Custom decks is a Father and Son operation. They are Hardworking, professional, and did a great job on our deck. I highly recommend them.

We were very pleased from the onset. Attention to detail and good ideas during the design process; helped us think through various design options and details. Took care of all of the demolition and worked with a local to recycle/reuse much of the old material (wood, mostly old redwood). We liked the 'green' aspect of their approach. Trust worthy and conscientious. Every step of the project was handled according to our plans. We made a few mid course adjustments that were handled we ease and grace. The overall project was accomplished on time and right on budget, no surprises. We would certainly recommend Creekside Custom Decks and will use their services for future projects.

All in all I am satisfied with this project. What I am happiest about is the price -- their bid was thousands less than what other contractors proposed for similar designs. The downside was the timeliness and quality of the project. This was a simple, 12x21', second floor deck with a single flight of stairs going down to ground level. The contractor was having to deal with some personal issues at the time and a project that we expected to take a week to a week and a half stretched out to nearly four weeks. There were days where they would only work two hours and other days that they didn't show up at all. That wasn't a huge deal for us, but it wasn't what we were expecting. I mean, all those extra days that get put into the contract are there for weather delays, delayed materials deliveries and things like that; I don't think the extra scheduled days are put into a contract because the builder didn't feel like working for multiple days.

I tend to be kind of picky and I pay very close attention to detail. I'm afraid that Creekside doesn't get high marks from me for craftsmanship. There is nothing wrong with the deck that a casual observer would pick out, and I can't say that any other contractor would have done better work, but there were multiple things that caused me to shake my head. For example, decking wasn't parallel on the wall next to the house; one post isn't quite plumb; concrete piers ended up being huge (wide) and they still ended up putting the post bracket on the very edge of the pier to get it positioned properly; the stairs had to be twisted a couple inches because they didn't pour the new concrete pad quite wide enough to have the stairs be square, etc. Nothing I would regard as poor workmanship, but it could have been better.

In conclusion, for the money I think we got a good product at a good price. I do think they could pay more attention to details, but in the end we got a good, solid, low-maintenance deck for the money.

The owner, Bill Wessels, was a delight to work with. He was always very prompt at getting back to us whenever we had a question or a request for a quote. They started the work sooner than expected and they completed the job very quickly. The materials used were top notch, the craftsmanship was excellent, and the price was competitive. I can highly recommend this company.

I had the initial meeting with the owner, Bill Wessells, at my home. I explained I wanted to rebuild my existing 13 year-old redwood deck but was uncertain about reusing redwood again or going with a composite material. He looked at the existing deck and noted the support structure was in good condition. I asked him to supply me with two quotes to rebuild the identical deck (with minor changes and utilizing the existing support structure): 1) using only redwood; and 2) using only the composite TREX material. He emailed me the quotes the next day. After considering several other quotes I had received, I accepted the bid for the deck to be rebuilt using the composite TREX material. We had another meeting to finalize the TREX color, the baluster selection, and the start and completion date.
Bill and his son, Ben, showed up on the start date. They outlined what they were going to do in the following few days and went to work tearing down the old deck. We talked on a daily basis about how the job was progressing, the weather, the Colorado Rockies or life in general. Bill and Ben were very easy to work with and professional in every way. The deck was completed in the agreed upon time frame. They told me to call if there was anything that needed an adjustment.

Creekside made the construction process so easy for us. They removed the existing deck and railings in 8 hours (10/17 to 10/18). Since they did not have to do any structural repairs, they were able to begin installing the new deck on 10/20, earlier than expected. The deck and stairs were completed by 10/25 (before the snow). They worked and quot;cleanand quot;, which was appreciated since we have two 5-month old puppies who and quot;loveand quot; to help clean up by taking everything that hits the ground and chewing it to bits. The pups had a tough time finding something to and quot;clean upand quot; because the work area was always cleared each evening.

Their craftsmanship was excellent and they were helpful over and above what I expected. Our original wood was still in pretty good shape, and we all felt it was a shame to send it to landfill when it could be reused. So they put an ad on Craigs List for us.

This father and son team knew what they were doing and made sure the job was done to their standard of excellence (which conveniently matched our standard as well). It was so refreshing to find craftsmen that really took pride in their work.

The cost of the project was more than we expected, but worth every penny. I am so tired of paying top price for poor workmanship. This job was completed by professionals with integrity and pride in craft. We can highly recommend them to anyone who wants a beautiful deck from a team that knows what they are doing.

We are extremely pleased with their work. I spent $4000 on that work. The deck looks great. I like their work. They are really friendly and do a great job. The thing that I dislike is that the work is not completed in a timely fashion. We had weather problems as well but I thought it could have been done more efficiently.

Excellent. The only "don't" is that I would remind them not to place their materials on our grass, as it caused the grass to die (easily done in Colorado Springs). After putting chicken poo on the grass, the grass came back, stronger than ever.

Very well. They removed the old deck in about 1/2 day in early October to allow Colorado Flatworks to begin excavation of a larger walk out patio. Post patio work (3 weeks), came back on site to complete deck building. Worked with me on the design with Colorado Springs Regional engineers to use 6x6 deck pillars/posts and a larger 3 x (2x10) beam to reduce posts by one from the original 4x4 pillar design. Used great materials of treated framework infrastructure with Trex decking. Placed joists on 1 foot centers , put nails in ever joist hanger as well as nails/screws into the beam. Used extra cauking at my request to reduce water potential between deck rim joist and house siding. Installed a 4-stringer staircase (vs my prior 2 stringer staircase) that is rock solid. All the railing and decking are very square and symetric - they thought through the design prior to cutting the materials. The stair railings which have compound cuts were done perfectly as well as the railing "poles" into the top and bottom rails of the railing. Trex requires 33+ degrees for installation via screws, and they always allowed the temperature and material to warm up prior to install during the colder periods of construction. I was so impressed with their detail and Ben (the president) listening to my input and concerns); I tipped them both with $50 Biaggis's dinner cards due to their flexability and diligence in meeting my design requests. Strong recommendation for these local builders.

We purchased a home in Monument, CO which needed fencing prior to us taking possession so our dogs would not wander the neighborhood. We contacted Bill for a preliminary quote. He was extremely easy to work with and was willing to meet with our Realtor to take measurements since we still lived out of state. Bill was very prompt with his calls, emails and fair with the pricing of the fence. His pricing was 1/2 the price of other fencing quotes we received. We also liked his honesty and responsiveness to our needs. We had some wire fencing that was a little high when the project was complete. We have one smaller dog that if she could find a way through the fence she would! It wasn't more than 3-4 inches which was nothing to worry about with our other two dogs. I called him about this and he promptly came out to add more fencing in those couple spots. He is a great business man! Highly recommend this company!
