Throughout this process, not only did Steve demonstrate professionalism, expertise, and dedication, he consistently above and beyond the call of duty. He made several suggestions along the way that improved the overall look of the finished product and also helped us navigate the waters when we uncovered unforeseen issues. One of these, was whether a main wall was load-bearing. Not content to just assume that the people we had out before, including an architect were correct, Steve brought in a structural engineer and verified that the wall was not load-bearing and because of this, we were able to stay truer to our original intent and design. Another example was how to deal with our furnace chase, which just happened to be in the worst location and could not be moved. The solution that Steve came up with both looks great and also has a functional purpose and a nice design element.
Communication in these types of large projects is always key and once again, this is an area where Steve shines. He consistently listened to us from the very beginning and let us know when changes needed to be made, schedules needed to be adjusted, or an unforeseen issue arose and he needed our input.
One of the greatest benefits of working with Steve had nothing to do with the original project. In the middle of the project, due to a freak storm, our basement flooded. Unfortunately, all of us were out of town. Steve immediately took charge, used his folks to move all of our stuff out of the flooded area (we were using our basement as our living space during the remodel), contacted a restoration crew to pump out the water (over 400 gallons) and set up fans/dehumidifiers, and rallied a carpet person to get us new carpet installed in less than a week. In addition, he took pictures for the Insurance agent and helped us move the furniture back in place. He also helped us pinpoint the main source of the weak spot (the patio our landscaper had completed had shifted) and made recommendations to help alleviate the issue in the future.
In the end, I would highly recommend Steve and any of the professionals (electrical, plumbing, hardwood flooring, cabinets, granite, tile, framers, etc) he uses. We will absolutely contact Steve for ALL of our future projects. He is quite simply the most ethical, honest, and expert contractor we have ever worked with.

Steve was FANTASTIC! I felt comfortable dealing with him right away. Very down to earth, willing to explain any question in great detail, and provide his opinion on how things should be done when asked. We went back to Texas and he started working. Steve communicated often via email and sent pictures of the work as it progressed, as well as calling to give us status updates and make mid-course corrections.
One example where he went above and beyond: The marble we chose for the floor was 18" and thicker (1/2") than he expected. With his background in custom home building, he was a bit concerned about the floor load with that marble and shifting. He contacted his engineer to get a second opinion and then put in a rubber barrier between the flooring and the marble which would help dampen vibrations and minimize any chances of cracking.
There were hiccups in some places as we had multiple contractors in doing work simultaneously but Steve never missed a beat. He was always up front, honest, and came through with flying colors. After just the one job, I consider him a trusted advisor for me and will absolutely use him again on future projects (I already have some in mind).
Maybe the best thing that speaks to his character is that I fully paid him and then discovered that there were some spots on the marble after everything was done. I called him, and he came out (while we were still in TX) and took care of everything, even sealing the marble which was not something I had originally asked for. A contractor that continues to work for you and finish the last detail, after they are already fully paid, is a contractor you can trust.
If you are a reasonable person looking for someone who does solid work at a good price and is dependable you don't need to bother with any more reviews. Call Steve!
He has an extensive network of companies that he works with and they all do great work. Steve remodeled our kitchen for us and did lots of extras. The end result is fabulous. We targeted an aggressive end date and he met it without issue. He had a lot of helpful suggestions along the way and even did extra work that wasn't in our initial contract.
He is a former builder and knows his trade, so you can trust that things will be done to code.
Can't say enough good things about Capstone and our experience.
