The horse, TT, is very old and another local vet had just floated his teeth approx. 2 months previously. Even in doing everything we could think of for him, TT kept losing weight and we noticed he appeared to be having issues with eating in general so when Justin was here for another vet call, we asked him to check TT's teeth, just in case, as the owner was contemplating putting TT down due to the continued unexplained weight loss. Justin jumped at the chance and was quickly able to pinpoint the problems and did an excellent job with TT's teeth while being extremely patient with the owner and was incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of the horse. He also took the time to teach us things as he completed the procedure. They have always been very nice, knowledgeable and helpful with us and our many boarders. They keep their pricing competitive as well. We have used them many times besides this one for such things as an injury and even eye flushing and we call on them whenever needed.

I have used San Juan for years. They have performed 3 major surgeries on my dog and all have gone well. I fully trust the staff at San Juan to take care of my animals and they always act in the animals best interest

My pomeranian injured her right hind knee on the corner of the door and was obviously in a great deal of pain and could not put any weight on that leg. I took her to San Juan Veterinary Clinic where she was examined by Christopher Franklin, DV. His examination indicated that she had not broken anything, but that her knee was probably inflamed and that she was in pain. He prescribed Rimadyl 25 mg, to be administered over a 7-day period. My dog developed adverse symptoms, including: (1) refusal to drink water; (2) listlessness or lethargy; (3) she would be walking, and both her hind legs would just collapse under her; (4) onset of shedding; (5) dry gagging; and (6) blood in her stool. After calling and attempting to speak with Dr. Franklin about these symptoms on July 14 and the clinic's refusal to have a vet even speak with me about these symptoms, because I had an outstanding balance of $44, I went online and searched for Rimadyl.
I learned that: (1) the foregoing symptoms are all side effects of Rimadyl and are all indicative of potentially fatal toxicityl; (2) that Rimadyl toxicity is very common in dogs; (3) that Pfizer makes Rimadyl; (4) that the vet was supposed to give me a document discussing these potential side effects, but he did not; (5) that it is unlikely that my dog will recover from this toxicity; and (6) that there is a very high probability that my dog will die from this toxicity.
I called the clinic back and informed them of what I had learned and insisted upon speaking with a vet but was told that, as long as I had an outstanding balance, they would have nothing more to do with me or my dog, regardless of my dog's medical condition. At the time of our visit on July 3, I informed the clinic that I could not pay the entire fee but would make payments on the balance. During my conversation with the clinic on July 14, I was informed that my account had already been turned over for collection the previous week, even though I had committed to making payments on the account.
In the meantime, my dog is so sick, and I am feeling extremely helpless, anxious, depressed, and guilty for having trusted Dr. Franklin and given her the Rimadyl without having investigated any potential side effects beforehand. Dr. Franklin was negligent in not giving me the written information on potential side effects that he was supposed to give me and as is customary practice with all prescription medications. At a minimum, he should have explained them to me verbally. Their refusal to treat my dog for a toxicity that they caused because of an outstanding balance, as well as their turning my account over for collection within just days of incurring the debt, is highly unethical. They explained their refusal by comparing my dog to a car that is taken to an auto repair shop; but this is an invalid comparison, as my dog is a living breathing creature, whereas a car is not. My understanding is that vets take an oath to and quot;do no harm, and quot; but by doing nothing they are doing harm. This veterinary clinic should move its practice to Wall Street because profit seems to be their sole pursuit.
