After receiving several bids, we decided to go with All Pro Decking. Ray was very knowledgeable about what had to be done to reach code, and knew the products very well. He was honest and very easy to work with. The crew was fabulous. They showed up at the same time every day, worked well together, and did top-quality work. No short cuts were taken. There was great communication throughout the entire project. I did not have to micro-manage this project (unlike many other home projects we've done). We LOVE our deck!!! I would hire Ray and his crew again in a heartbeat.
When the city inspector came out, he said, and quot;Wow, I wish all decks were built this well.and quot;
The project design phase was slowed largely due to the fact it occurred during the busy summer/early fall construction season of 2014. Ray was upfront about this (slow design phase) from the beginning, so while it was, at times, a bit frustrating, Ray kept me informed and was always honest about the project schedule.
The project also likely took longer because I decided to subcontract the concrete pad and electrical work on my own. This was my decision as the homeowner, and the associated delays were in no way a negative reflection on Ray or All Pro Decking.
On reflection, if I could do it again, I would have had Ray do all of the subcontracting (hindsight is great). Once the construction began at the end of November, things went very quickly.
I am extremely pleased with the quality of the finished free-standing covered porch/pergola. I was quite impressed watching Ray's crew work, smoothly and efficiently putting the large post and beam structure together. They definitely knew what they were doing.
At the end of each day the crew spent time cleaning up the work site and leaving it clean and neat, which also really impressed me.
The total project cost was a little more than I had intended to spend, but that was largely because this was a custom design. I made choices on post/beam size and other materials/options which increased the cost.
I recommend Ray McLees and All Pro Decking without hesitation for a porch / deck project. Ray was great to work with, and his crew is skilled, efficient and kept the work site clean and neat while the project was underway, as well as after they had finished.
The end product is a gorgeous deck that won't kill us by falling apart while we're on it.
