They are horrible. The insurance paid for most of it. We ended up having to hire someone else to redo the gutters. We were supposed to get 50 year shingles. The gutters were done wrong. The roof was actually done by a crew and they did a good job. The old man who was in his 80's was up on the roof helping and he knows what he is doing. But the son, Roger, has taken over the business now and he is an as*hole, basically. You call him and he says he will be here at a specific time and you get up early to wait on him and he never shows. He just tells you whatever he thinks you want to hear. My overall grade is based only on Roger. The crew was okay and the roof was okay. But when he doesn't do the gutters right and doesn't show up to fix them and we have to wait until the next year and finally get someone else out to come and redo the gutters and pay another $1,500 that is messed up. That is not the way to stay in business. The price was alright. They were unresponsive and wouldn't show up to fix the problem. He wouldn't even talk about the problem.
If you are looking for a roofer here are some questions to ask:
1. Will they need to tear off the old roof or will they just put new shingles over the old? (I read somewhere that you should never have a roof with more than three layers of shingles)
2. Will they be bringing a roll off or truck to put in their trash?
3. How long do they anticipate the job will take?
4. How early in the morning will they start? (It gets really hot on a roof so they like to start early)
5. What will they do to mitigate agitating the neighbors? (It helps if you let the neighbors know what is coming and how long it should last)
6. What kinds of things might cause the final cost to deviate from the estimate?
7. Are they licensed? How long in business? Referrals?
