Michael Mullin MD

As an architect Michael Mullin was good. The first designs he did we liked. It took him about 20min to sketch it out on a napkin. After that we paid for all the measurements and what not and that seemed to go well too except that he wasn't the best communicator. Days would go by without a response to our emails. We assumed he was busy and gave him space, but as we continued to work with him we realized that he was just a really bad communicator. We would request changes to the designs that wouldn't be done, but then get invoices for design work. This is when our relationship broke down. After the initial sketch not much was done to alter the design and yet we would be invoiced for design hours. When I requested detailed information on what 25 hours at $150/hr was used for he would ignore my requests or tell me that no one had ever asked for a breakdown of cost like that so he couldn't tell me. I started writing all emails as line item lists in an effort to get answers but those emails would go unanswered. Finally my husband and I decided to stop working with him. A year later when we started working with another architect he seemed shocked that for $25K we had received nothing but a current layout of the home and a few hand sketches. He asked where our blueprints were, where the disk with our files was, and why hadn't anyone looked into permits. We went back to Michael and asked him the same questions. he said we never paid for any of those things. Just wanting out and to forget how much money we wasted on the man we requested any files he had, specifically the .DWG file of the work done so we could move forward without him. After a month of emails back and forth where we were required by Michael to get documents signed from a lawyer stating he wasn't responsible for how his drawings were used, he told us he couldn't find the .DWG file we had requested at the start of all this. However you look at it losing anything especially something as vital as the .DWG file we requested, is unprofessional. If it was truly lost then it proves that he's incompetent and you don't want to work with him. If it was only "lost" because he was spiteful and didn't want to give it to us, well then he's still someone you don't want to work with. Stay away from Michael Mullin. In my opinion he's a shady character.
