Direct-Tek, LLC

A laptop computer containing crucial information required for a January meeting booted up but got "stuck" spinning for hours whenever I tried to access info.  The wunderkind at Geek Squad told me to hard drive was bad and they could copy my harddrive onto an external harddrive for $155.00.  I trusted them - mistake.  Results were poor and they did not copy over much of anything to the external harddrive and continued to push for me to replace the harddrive (or the laptop).  I can't say whether the responses to my questions were based on lack of knowledge or incentive to sell or whether they just didn't care - but I found absolutely no truth in what I was told by Geek Squad employees.
By chance I stopped by Direct Tek to ask about the laptop after a visit to the bank.  The owner, Mark Jensen, had a whole different attitude.  As an IT Engineer, his knowledge base was at a whole different level.  Based on my description of the problem, he felt it was a virus and offered a free assessment.  I brought the computer in and he finished up the work in a couple of days.  He delivered everything he said he would do and all of the lost files were right where I left them.  He also installed a antivirus program that was cheaper and safer than Norton or McAfee for a 30day trial.  The total cost was just under $150.  Plus I received great customer service. 
Prior to moving to Boulder, I lived in Milwaukee, WI.  A company, similar to Direct Tek, built computers for those of us who wanted a domestic machine.  The price is a little higher than an off the shelf but that computer lasted more years than I care to say with few problems.  Any technical support came from the store technicians (vs. someone offshore) and it was great.  I will definitely be using Direct Tek for my next desktop purchase!
DO - use Direct Tek for computer repair and purchase!
DON'T - use the Geek Squad!
