In late summer, 2007, we contracted with Ward's Landscape, Inc., to do a very large landscape project at our home at a cost of $33,255, the full amount of which was paid over the course of the project with the last payment being made at the completion of the project last year. We were assured several times during the project when we expressed concerns about the quality of both the stock and work, that we had nothing to worry about. Everything was guaranteed for a year, we were told. Plants that died over the winter would be replaced, they assured us, problems with the sprinkler system would be rectified, any situations that arose within one year would be addressed. In June, 2008, we began contacting Ward s, asking that they come to our home, survey the issues we felt needed to be addressed and schedule the work. For two months we were effectively ignored. On Thursday, July 31, someone from Ward s did finally come to our home, took a cursory look around, and told me that with the possible exception of two, the plants that had died would not be covered under the warranty. He then assured me he would call me back the very next day without fail to schedule whatever work Ward s agreed might actually be covered under the guarantee. I have not heard from him or anyone else from Ward s Landscape since. In the meantime, we're experiencing 100+ degree temperatures and we have issues with the sprinkler system both in the lawn and in the flower beds. The sprinkler system that Ward's put in isn't doing the job and some parts of the system that were already in place before Ward s started the project are no longer working. And in regard to that particular problem, we were told on Thursday that if we wanted that part of the system fixed we would have to upgrade at our own additional expense to a more expensive control box than the one that they put in last year as part of the project. Shrubs, which should be covered under the warranty are dead and have not been replaced. Five plants that I specifically requested last year be included in the plan but were not planted last year because of availability and were promised for this year have still not been planted. Some flagstones on the steps of the retaining wall are loose and dangerous and have not been repaired. We have patiently tried for two months to get a meaningful response from Ward s Landscape. We have asked more than once that Steve Ward call us back so that we could speak directly to him about the situation. We have never heard from him. Little or no interest in our concerns has been shown by Ward s Landscape. We are now faced with the realization that Ward s Landscape most likely does not intend to replace, repair or adjust anything, in spite of all the verbal assurances made to us. Apparently once they have your money, they're done with you.
