This project did not go smoothly. Subcontractors used for the install were unprofessional and undertrained. Parts of the project were not completed on the install date and crew had to return to complete. The gate was put on backwards- opening out vs in to the yard, with the lock on the outside vs the inside. The project managers were non-responsive, regardless of contact method used (email, phone). Overall, I would warn people away from this company.

Cancelled first appointment when crew did not show up after three hours of waiting. Rescheduled. Crew appeared for the second appointment one day late. Communication from the company to us about these schedule matters was non-existent. The only communication occurred when I called. Once the crew began the process, things went well. The first day (June 6--supposed to be June 5) the two person crew took out the old fence and installed all of the new 6"x6"x9' posts. They then marked the posts to prepare for the installation of the stringers, caps, and pickets. They did an excellent job of cleanup. The second day a different two person crew appeared (we thought it would be the same crew). Though not as disciplined as the first day crew, they were effective and completed the installation. This second day crew also cleaned up. It should be noted that only one member of the first day crew spoke any English (and this was very limited) and neither member of the second day crew spoke English. The final result was very satisfactory, however, the communication from the office and between the customer (me and my wife) and the crews was not good. If Split Rail can fix the communications and meet the planned schedule, they would receive an A rating.

I am a detail person and learned a few tips during my fence experience. 1) When you get the quote, make certain it is accurate. The initial quote forgot the second gate. After one email, this was resolved. 2) When you receive your confirmation email, you will receive an order number. Anytime you call or email Split Rail Fence, leave your Name, Phone Number, Address and Order Number. That will help get you to the right person. 3) They said it would take about 4 weeks to begin. Not an issue. 4) Three weeks out, I called and they assigned me an exact date for tearing out the old fence and setting the posts for the new fence. Keep in mind, your yard is exposed. I put all of my outdoor furniture in the garage. I also bought that orange plastic fencing and the guys helped put up the orange plastic as a temporary barrier. The posts need to set-up in the concrete for 3-7 days depending on weather. Mine took 5 days. 5) They came back and completed the fence in one day. They did a great job. 6) If you think Trex is expensive, let me make a couple of points: A) You have no maintenance with Trex. B) you do not have to stain Trex. C) The Trex fence is finished on both sides. If you take a cedar fence and ask for it to be finished on both sides, the cost almost doubles. D) Trex is a composite and will not rot. E) You do not get splinters with Trex. F) Trex is reinforced with metal inserts in the posts, bottom track and top track. I am not a Trex salesperson. I am a professor who did a lot of research on Trex versus cedar. At first, I thought cedar would be a lower cost. However, after deciding I wanted both sides finished, with no maintenance and plan to be in this home for a long time, I believe my overall cost is lower with Trex while the initial cost may be higher.

While I was reticent to call the biggest fence company in town for my small job at my rental house I still called Split Rail Fence Company for this work. They were able to get to the job quickly and did excellent work. They coordinated with my renters and my neighbor and completed the job the same day. The workmanship is excellent and they totally cleaned up after themselves. I highly recommend Split Rail Fence Company for work in the Denver metro area and Northern Colorado.

Brock came over and gave a competitive bid for us. Was also especially helpful that they are the Home Depot approved contractor, meaning no interest payments for 2 years. We ended up getting a 6' aluminum fence w/ spikes around a fairly large yard. Great job by Jeff and his team on the installation. We were really impressed both by the work conducted and the way Jeff managed the project. He walked us through the gameplan, resolved any expected issues (i.e. requiring additional manpower to get the job done on time and was great at communicating throughout. The end product looks great as well.

I attempted to get prices from 4 other contractors to have fence installed in Conifer. I received a call back from Tracy within a few hours, he met me the next day and provided a quote. The work was done exactly as promised and finished a day early. The installer Fernando introduced himself and communicated well with me during the process. I am very pleased with the end result and the service.

They did quality work.  They were punctual and professional.   The workers were here and in no time the job was done.   It was not a huge expense. Part of our neighbours was doing their fence and we sort of tied up with them.  I would use them in the future.

Poorly. We called in early May and were put through to the "scheduler's" voicemail. We left a nice message saying some of the spindles had fallen out, and our need was a little urgent as we had young children and a dog who could get out, that the fence was being held together but definitely temporarily. After two and a half weeks of no call back, I called again, and spoke to the receptionist who at first stated he was surprised that we hadn't heard back from the scheduler and then curtly replied that the scheduler was "really busy". The next day I heard from the scheduler who informed me that the "minimum to roll a truck is $500". I was surprised by this as they had made service calls in the past and never heard this policy. I asked about the minimum and was told this was a policy that had been in exisistence for about a year. I asked him if someone could come and give an estimate, and he said the estimate would not be less than $500, regardless of the amount of work I reluctantly told him ok, please let's schedule the appointment to repair. He then said he needed to check if our work was warranteed and said he would call me right back. Never heard from him. I called a week later to follow up and he had no recall of our telephone conversation. He basically told me that Split Rail was too busy to follow up on small jobs and repairs. Funny, as I was sitting on hold for him their hold message kept saying that "service is our rule"! When I said "so basically you are saying that I am too small a job for you despite the fact that you have built four fences for me and could build me more in the future?" to which he replied "yes". I found another company who came the day after I called them and charged me $150, and did a great job!

They were horrible. After 3 months the gate was warped the fencing had gaps. They were supposed to put in new hardware and they never did that either. I took them to court and had pictures of proof of their shoddy work and to no avail. The nails are bleeding and they didn't use galvanized nails. I would not recommend them. I had some reclining boards that separated the wood chips from the grass and it looked awful. They have cost me a lot of money and I almost paid them $10,000 for this job.

They worked with my Home Owners Association to make sure it fit the requirements. They set everything up with me via email and arranged to do the work. I didn't have to be there when it was done. It was finished on time and they did everything they promised.

I obtained several bids from fence contractors. Split Rail was the only bidder who said they could relocate an existing cedar fence, which they did. Their bid was very reasonable compared to the other bidders whose bids covered installation of two new fences. They did excellent work. The only problem was scheduling, mostly because of the difficulty in reaching the people who handle that function. This would not normally have been a concern to me, but we had to work around a complete re-landscaping of my yard, which was going on at the same time.

Though the company came well recommended, the company was very slow to respond to my repeated requests for an estimate (5 weeks), then told me they couldn't do the entire job because of concerns about local building codes, which they never substantiated. Then after being paid an initial 20% deposit for the part they could do, they came back and told me they'd made a mistake in the amount of materials required and needed to increase the estimate to make up for it. In the end they only did half the job originally quoted for nearly the same amount it would have cost to do the whole thing ($2800 vs $3000). To be fair, the quality of work that was done, once it was done, was very good. The problem had more to do with sloppy estimating and bad communication between the estimator and the work crew.
