The installation was excellent. Their installer really know how to fish wiring through my difficult 100+ year old home. He took pride in his work, and was thorough. He explained the operation of the system, programmed it per my needs, etc.
The company with whom they subcontracted the monitoring allowed their license to expire in Colorado Springs. Thus, I was paying for the illusion of a monitored alarm, or more accurately, an alarm that was monitored for no reason, as the police refused to respond when called by the monitor due to the monitoring company's license having expired. If I hadn't needed the police to respond and had them refuse, I would have never known. Caveat Emptor. For this reason, I switched monitoring companies.
I purchased outright from Rocky Mountain Alarm the panel as well as the installation, and fulfilled a term contract for monitoring of the system. Without my knowledge or consent, Rocky Mountain Alarm changed a dealer/installer code in my panel from the factory default to their own code in order to lock down my system. There is no way to reset this code to the factory default without the new code -- you must have the code they changed it to or you are shafted. This week, I needed to alter my panel, so I tried using the factory default installer/dealer code and discovered what had been done. I called Rocky Mountain Alarm (Melissa), who confirmed that such is their company policy, and they want $98.50 to return control of my panel to me. This is identical to the cellular providers locking their phones to their network and then refusing to unlock them when you pay off the phone -- a practice that is now illegal. I don't know if this practice is legal for the alarm industry, especially since they did not subsidize my panel in any way, but I feel that it is unethical.
I will say that the employees at Rocky Mountain Alarm are friendly, and the company is probably in the top 20% of alarm providers, in spite of my two very substantial problems with them. The industry as a whole has some shady practices, and is not always competent, so RM Alarm looks good only in comparison. I'm dissatisfied with them, but would likely be more dissatisfied with many of their competitors.

Watch out for both Rocky Mountain Alarm and Mountain Alarm. I had Rocky Mountain Alarm take over an existing, working alarm system when my original alarm company began having problems servicing their contracts. I signed a new contract with Rocky Mountain Alarm and thought all was well. Was I wrong! Mountain Alarm bought Rocky Mountain Alarm a couple months later and the problems began. Mountain Alarm told me they had to upgrade my system to match their requirements for their home alarm systems. They did this several times over the next year but, each time an upgrade was made I lost a feature that I used and liked. The only way I could get the feature back was to sign a new contract and/or pay more $$$$. Sometimes repairs were made and parts replaced when all the parts were still working. The last time this happened I found damage to wires were the real problem but, because the original tech didn't know what he was doing I was charged over one thousand dollars to make repairs that were not needed and replace parts that still worked. I also lost the ability to alarm my home from the alarm pad in my garage. I have a pad in my detached garage and in my home. I used to be able to alarm my home from the garage pad until an upgrade was made. Now I have to pay $$$$ to get a relay installed so I can get this feature back. Maybe! Two other features I lost after upgrades were made; first I can no longer call into my system to activate or deactivate it and two, I could not isolate a defective sensor, (bypass) the problem sensor. I have been told the new upgrade/ installation of a relay should fix the problem. I am skeptical.

My experience with Rocky Mountain Alarm is good. I called them to change from my old security company to Rocky Mountain and to do some repairs to my system. They responded quickly, reviewed my home system, the contract was signed and money paid. I had to call the office to schedule an appointment for the technician. The technician showed up as scheduled and did the work he was supposed to do. This company is good and they do what they say they will. The only thing I didn't like was having to sign a three year contract with them. I would prefer a year to year contract.

They were wonderful. I can call them for anything and they respond immediately. A woman came the first time I called and she spent 3 hours with me explaining everything to me & planning a security system. I was extremely vulnerable at that time and she was a comfort. They installed the system a few days later. They provide great service and the price is worth the service.
