He did a wonderful job for us. He kept the cost low for us as well. All the sub?s he brought in did excellent work as well and were reasonably priced.

Contractor was pleasant and attentive--at first. He tried to build foundation in the wrong place, wouldn't believe us when we said it was off. We had to get the building engineer to confirm that it was wrong before he would move it. Then, after pouring extra concrete and rendering 50 sq. ft. of basement unusable, he put the supporting steel beam in the wrong place, so that we had to alter our stairway and change the entire appearance. At every step, we had shoddy workmanship, including drywall so rough that it had to be completely resurfaced, windows painted shut, stairway that had to be rebuilt twice, hardwood floors with gaps at the edges (floor had to be resurfaced twice and still isn't right). Painters took over four months to paint a 2,000-sq.-ft. house and left many glaring mistakes, and he insisted that we pay them even though the job was unfinished and poorly executed. At every step we found overcharges and double billing from the contractor for materials, and we had to watch the subs like a hawk. In any dispute with a sub (this includes the electrician, finish carpenter, drywaller, painters, plumbers, air conditioner/mechanical contractor--pretty much everyone), the contractor sided with the sub and insisted he and the sub be paid despite incomplete or shoddy work. This contractor is the worst possible combination of incompetence and poor ethics. His attitude is "Charge them for it, and if they don't notice the overcharge, it's their bad luck." This was to be a five-month project, and it took thirteen months. And we moved in over two years ago and the punch list still isn't complete. I have been in business all my adult life and have never had a significant problem with a seller or service provider until now. Hiring Marsh Custom Builders is, without a doubt, the worst business decision I have ever made.
