Ben Tanksley's assistant Pat Snider was great. But BT was inexperienced, failed to return to fix problems. Forfeited his last paycheck instead, got angry, poor write up of estimate.

Ben showed up one time for his two days of work.  Everything looks good, he cleaned up, was polite, etc.  Overall was great and would definitely hire him again.  The thing that most stood out however, was at some point during both days when I checked in or I was leaving for the day, he looked me in the eye and gave me a real genuine "Thank you for your business."  I can't remember the last time I heard that.

These guys were pros.  I had visited with some of the others on AL and received one return call two weeks after I called them.  Grizzly was prompt and when hidden problems in my deck were found, they were fair in their charges for the repair.  Mostly, they did exactly what they said they would do.  They were not the cheapest but the extra few bucks were very well spent.

Ben power washed away all the old chipping paint from my exterior windows and did a great job repainting and caulking them in a very timely manner. At that time I was attempting to re-grout in my bathroom and encountered problems with some mositure that had damaged some tiles and the wall. He took a look and gave a time and cost estimate then, and came over a few days later and did a great job repairing the wall as well  as re-grouting and caulking. Looks good as new. He may not be the least expensive, but he does a quality job that will probably last longer in the end.

UPDATED INFORMATION AS OF 4-13-12: BEN RESPONDED TODAY BY ADDRESSING MY CONCERNS. HE DID FIX EVERYTHING I HAD REQUESTED AND DID SO IN A RESPECTFUL MANNER. HE WAS MUCH MORE APPROPRIATE IN HIS EFFORTS TO ENSURE THE JOB WAS DONE COMPELTELY AND TO MY SATISFACTION!!

Ben Tanksley did a fantastic job, and even my neighbors who do construction work were amazed by his work. I would rate him highly, and I will definitely use him again in the future.

I used him a few times in the past month and also previously in September 2010. The fence work helped my neighbor as it was coming down. My experience with him was great and I would not use anybody else. He was great. He was very prompt and on time. He provided me with a proposal right away when I requested him for that. He was very thorough. He did a lot of extra work that he did not charge me for.         

Ben arrived right on time for our preliminary, estimate meeting. He came with a picture portfolio showing prior work he completed. He was friendly and professional throughout. He took notes and pointed out issues as we toured the various areas needing to be addressed. He also provided his opinion on other projects at my request; not just to throw in more jobs (and more $) for himself. He offered a variety of suggestions and possible solutions for several "down-the-road" jobs. Once we had a verbal agreement, Ben went right away that evening and prepared a written follow-up report/written agreement on what we discussed. I was very impressed with his choice to initiate this and to complete the report so quickly and so professionally. He emailed the report to me right away and also brought it along to give to me directly in the am. bvefore starting to work. Ben worked for 7.5 hours the first day and about 5 hours the second day. During this time I was available for any questions or comments he might have. When he finished a section, he showed it to me and even pointed out any problems he encountered along the way. He also pointed out the very minor mistake that he made and told me how he would take care of it promptly; which he did. I really liked his "bigness" and willingness to take ownership of even a minor problem. Few people take such pride in their integrity like that anymore. Ben did a great great job! Don't let his youthfulness fool you. He puts many "old-timers" in the trade to shame. I'd hire Ben over anyone claiming they have an edge just because of their years of experience. Though I understand Ben started this kind of work when he was quite young, he still probably has less years in this line of work than his counterparts, but you wouldn't know that because his quality work seems beyond his actual years. Ben's a great guy. I highly recommend him for all your handyman needs.

He is very conscientious, prompt, extremely polite, and very honest. He certainly has his act together and seems to have strong morals. He has shown himself to be very responsible. I have used him for a number of years and will continue to use him.

This was a long distance employment since I live in Kansas. I had never used this company but it was recommended by a friend who had used Grizzly Construction for her storm repair work. Ben went to the property with the initial insurance report to check things out. While there he discovered additional damage that he felt should have been included on the insurance claim so he contacted the property manager, the insurance agent and me. There were several legitimate delays due to previous commitments for both the adjustor and Ben as well as weather problems. However when the adjustor was able to meet with Ben he agreed with Ben's assessment of damage and the claim was increased accordingly. After working with Ben, the adjustor also decided that he would release the entire sum including the depreciation amount based on Ben's knowledge and willingness to complete the job in a timely manner. At the same time Ben let me know that the old raised deck was beyond repair and basically dangerous. He gave me a complete report on the condition of each portion of the deck. This was no surprise to me as I had suspected as much. He proposed a total deck replacement. Several emails and phone calls later, we had agreed on what needed to be done. Ben first blocked access to the deck by blocking the back door to avoid any possibility of tenant accident. He then removed and discarded the entire deck and the underneath storage area including items left there over the years. In order to save money, he proposed using any parts of the former deck structure that had not been exposed to the weather and were in good, safe condition. He was asked to design the new deck to be similar to the east deck that had been replaced in 2008. He finished the work in a very timely manner. I am very pleased with the completed deck. I am also pleased that while he was there he realized that the east deck needed 2 additional support posts to make it a safer, more solid deck and I have asked him to do that work for me as well. Overall I felt the work was well done and completed very quickly. I also appreciated the fact that Ben needed to work with the tenants and the manager with as little impact as possible. Feedback from the manager was very positive. I would definitely use Ben for additional work as needed.
