Review of Cushman Concrete - Littleton/Englewood, CO Project: spring 2024 Our experience with Cushman Concrete for a front porch patio project started with high expectations but ended in complete disappointment and frustration. We strongly advise against using their services for any home or commercial needs based on our unfortunate experience. Project Details: Owner: Bill Cushman Project: Front porch patio (42'x7'x6") Issues: Damage to irrigation system: Bill’s team drove a form spike through one of our sprinkler lines, buried our front sprinkler box, and broke irrigation piping due to site compaction. Quick erosion, flooding, and landscaping issues. Saw cuts during the removal process chipped and ruined the facade of one of the remaining sections of the patio. After these issues, Bill's own sprinkler company confirmed the damage. An independent licensed and insured sprinkler company also assessed the situation and agreed with the initial findings. Bill was given the opportunity to inspect the damage himself. He found the buried sprinkler box and committed to making it right. However, during the removal of the concrete section, Bill’s saw cut chipped and ruined the facade of one of the remaining sections. Customer Service Issues: Bill Cushman has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Despite multiple opportunities to repair the damage and the customer relationship, Bill failed to take responsibility. He initially did not discuss repair costs until we pressed him, then quoted a repair cost at 47% of the initial project cost, claiming it was a favor to us, even though the section needing repair was only 17% of the total surface area. Bill is abrasive and allows his ego to interfere with doing right by the customer. You can read multiple similar reviews on other sites. Recommendation: We strongly recommend avoiding Cushman Concrete. They do not provide a written warranty, and our experience shows that they prioritize their own interests over customer satisfaction. We have contacted the BBB in hopes that no other families are impacted by these business practices. We hope to save other families from the headache of dealing with this company. For those interested, we have full email documentation of our interactions with Bill Cushman. Feel free to comment if you would like to see these interactions.

I called Mr. Bill Cushman after getting a few quotes from other contractors that were scheduling out about two months. The project was somewhat time sensitive and Bill came out that day, gave me a quote, and was on site within 3-4 days. Bill is "hands on", with great supervision, top notch equipment, and a hard working crew. The whole team was professional, courteous, cleaned up each evening and overall we came away with exactly the right solutions to fix some major issues. Bill's design for drainage worked perfectly and the whole process was completed in three days. Bill kept us informed each step along the way and his crew stayed late the very last day to finish the project on time! The entryway, utilizing stamped concrete and a color coat, replaced a stone area that had cracked and broken up over the years. Bill's solution for this was exactly what was needed and makes the whole entryway look brand new.

Initially, at the time of sale and initial work, Cushman's team was responsive, offered lots of options, and appeared very friendly. Now, 6 years later the concrete is in awful shape with cracks, tons of flaking (about 30% of the drive), and holes. My family and I admittedly noticed this starting to happen about 2 years ago, but failed to call at that time. This winter it go so much worse I decided it was time. I called 3 other companies as well, including Cushman's, to see who could come fix this issue. I got calls from Cushman and two others. Bill unfortunately decided to go on the defensive immediately, telling me that it was my fault for never sealing the drive, for not calling him sooner, for not completely shoveling my drive after every snow (an assumption on his part - sometimes correct), and for parking in my driveway (another assumption on his part - not correct, I use my garage).
After he yelled and then I yelled for a bit back, he said he would come out and have a look and might even fix it for free. That was 4 weeks ago and I haven't or heard a thing. Meanwhile the other 2 contractors did come out and told me it is not repairable. In both cases, they said the substrate was too wet to begin with and the entire thing is too week for our climate. This is the 3rd time I've been told this by an outside party. Regardless, there is nothing I can do but replace my driveway again for the 2nd time in 6 years.
I find his assumptions and excuses all very interesting. In addition to the other contractors comments, I've talked to several of my neighbors. They have driveways that are 20 - 30 years old, never been sealed, are on the north side like mine, and one of them parks in his drive exclusively. Their concrete is NOT flaking like mine. The drives are old and you can tell, but mine is in far worse shape. Can't sweep it without taking out junks now. Also to note, the sidewalk in front of my driveway is in better shape and it gets the same treatment as my drive (shoveled or not), driven on, not parked on, never sealed.
Take this all for what it's worth, but I will say his 100% satisfaction guarantee is BS. I'm not satisfied, he isn't trying to fix that, and I don't want him to try.

Cushman employees are great guys and do very good work. They did a wonderful job on the concrete they poured. A year later the concrete was chipping and he came back and fixed it free of charge. Has a live time guarantee on all of his services and he keeps his word.

The whole process appeared to go very well. He was prompt and the driveway looked great to begin with But the very next spring I noticed that a number of places were flaking off and holes were developing in the driveway. I called Mr. Cushman and described the problem. He told me he would call me back to come look at it. That is the last I heard from him; after that he wouldn't even answer my calls. So I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. I got a report from them saying that he never returned their calls either. Under no circumstances would I ever use this company again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.

Bill Cushman was very helpful with design and ideas. Existing porch had settled and cracked. They removed old concrete and poured after compacting and using rebar that was to prevent any future cracking. They were to remove existing railroad ties in the area, which they did with the exception of the railroad tie that bordered the front step. There was over pouring at the sidewalk junction and, once removed, the railroad tie left a rough imprint on the side of the steps leading to the porch. In addition, they were to follow up and come out to seal the concrete. They did not follow up with the sealant until the next summer in 2009 after many calls. It required numerous other calls to get they to grind down the railroad tie imprint on the side of the step. The step was ground but they covered the rose colored concrete with a brick red paint that sticks out like a sore thumb. When asked about it Bill Cushman said it was hard to match colors and suggested I call a different concrete contractor I was doing business with to fix the color. I asked him to repair the area to match but he said it was too cold and it would have to happen the next year. He said he was not going anywhere and if it took 25 times they would get it right. At that time I asked about the crack that was starting across the surface of the porch itself and he said it would be hard to repair due to the color match situation. It is now the summer of 2010 and I have called three times. I did reach Bill once in early June 2010 and he said he would be out to take care of it in the next couple days. I have not heard back from him and have not had a response from any other calls. Cushman Concrete's website states that they have a Lifetime Warranty but I am not sure in whose lifetime.
