Our GE microwave quit operating after having it for approximately four years. It was covered under a five-year extended warranty, so we called GE and they referred us to Don Colson at Colson Appliance, Inc. Mr. Colson contacted us and came to our home twice (once to determine the problem and order the repair parts and a second time to install the repair parts). However, one of the parts had been damaged in shipment to him, and he had to obtain another. He then came to our home the following Saturday morning to install the needed part. The repairs were fully covered by the warranty and we really did appreciate his very prompt attention to our problem.
I was turning off the lights above the stove and noticed a smudge on the stainless steel front panel...right by the number 3. The helper's hand had been covering the spot when he was showing me how the new electronic panel was working now, so I didn't see while they were still here. I sprayed some windex on the smudge (someone's finger had run up and down over this ONE spot) and it revealed that the panel had been dented. I wanted to be sure I wasn't seeing things, so I waited for my husband to come home and look at it too. He instantly saw the dent and called Don to ask what he planned on doing about it.
Don looked up the price of the panel...said it would be around $145 to replace it and that he would probably have to cover it because it wouldn't be covered by our warranty. He said that the part was in Texas and that when it came in he would contact us to come and repair it. My husband said that was fine, to call us when it came in, and they both hung up. 5 minutes later, Don called back and said he had talked to his helper and that the dent was there when they arrived. This is completely untrue. I'm very meticulous about the care of all the things in my home and I would never have NOT seen a dent like this. Plus...if it was dented...I would have had Lowe's (the store where the product was bought) bring me another stove or replace the panel. My husband told Don that he could replace the part or that we would file a claim with Frigidaire , the BBB, and whatever else we have to do. He said it was and quot;our problemand quot; and hung up.
Normally, I would let something like this go...but I know 100% that he knows that they caused the dent. His, or his worker's, fingerprint was smudged over the spot (the only smudge, I might add, on the entire panel) to dull the appearance of the dent. It was only when I cleaned off the smudge that the dent become crystal clear. Needless to say, I think Don is very dishonest. He knows that they caused the dent, we know that they caused the dent, and basically (after agreeing to replace it) decided to say it was our problem. Let me just say this too...he never even asked if he could come by and see what we were talking about. Wouldn't you think, as a business owner, you would do that just to make sure that you and your customer were on the same page about the damage? The reason he didn't need to come out is because he knew that the damage was there and that they caused it. Bottom line here--Do yourself a favor and find yourself another repairman. If he damages anything in your home, trust me, he isn't going to take responsibility for it. Guaranteed. He's completely dishonest.
