Addendum 7/13/11:
Our architect/designer team visited to check on the progress. Afterward, they sent an email, part of which follows:
"I?ve been thinking again about your kitchen designer and she makes me so mad. The worst part is how she is completely unwilling to take any responsibility for her screwups. At the very least, she should have offered a compromise. I got your plans out again just now and measured the sink on the drawing with my scale. It scales 33?. So she doesn?t even know how to use a scale. If you look at the general notes, the seventh note says ?dimensions take precedence over drawing ? DO NOT SCALE!?. And, the notes say that the uppers are 42? tall; and the notes say nothing about the microwave being 36?. That woman is so unprofessional, she shouldn?t even be promoting herself as a kitchen designer. I guess my point is that if you wanted to call a lawyer into this, you would be in a very strong position."
"Of course there are always two sides to the story. After talking to [Member name removed] she and I agreed that the 42 inch cabinets were awfully tall for such a small kitchen. She decided to change the order to 36 tall cabinets. The drawings and the contract were quite clear about that. Both the contract and the drawings were signed off prior to my ordering the cabinets. The contract also said the pricing was plus delivery charges to the garage. The delivery costs were not $550.00 or even close to it. Since [Member name removed] was so irate about taking the cabinets into the garage and not the house I went ahead and paid the extra charge. The driver/delivery man was actually afraid of what was going on and called me from the jobsite. I could hear [Member name removed] yelling in the background. Since [Member name removed] had approved the changes to the drawings and the design, I didn't feel that I was in the wrong. I enjoyed working with [Member name removed] quite a bit so when her husband and son (the contractor) had a fit over the changes I offered to let her have the wall cabinets at my cost. I will not work with a customer without discussing with them about changes that might be something they might like. It is up to them to decide what they like or don't like. I felt that the cabinets were overbearing in the small kitchen and only suggested that she go to a shorter cabinet. She agreed. If [Member name removed] and his son were interested in how this project was progressing then they should have been in on the discussions. I am sorry that this job didn't go well for my customer. It is unusual to have this type of outcome. I am usually friends with my customers when the remodel is finished."
