Went ok, with followup warranty work. However, trying to get some paint pens for future scratches has been a crazy experience - I keep getting a variety of excuses continually. I finally asked for a small container of paint since the excuses have been around the availability of the pen yet then I get no response to that request? Every month I ask and every month I get an excuse. How are they going to be when we have warranty work?

Worst experience with a contract painter! They do not know how to caulk, scrape---and paint is popping off 3 months later!

The first day they were 2 hours late. Painted 1 hour and left to go and get supplies that thay should have had and went to lunch. Three hours later showed up and painted for an hour. The second day they were on time but with the wrong supplies. They used masking tape that bled through and I had paint all over my woodwork, also very messy I have paint all over my floors, shutters, a chair and asked them to please roll up my carpet that they got paint on. I removed most of the light switches and vents. The ones I didn't they just painted over. I called the company and complained twice. They said they would send someone out twice and never saw anyone. The paint they got on my shutters they removed some of it with a knife and I had to go back over the shutters with stain. I had to clean my carpet from the paint and two weeks later I am still fixing mistakes and removing paint from the wood trim. They came back and did 4 hurs of touch up and didn't stir the paint so now I'm having to paint over that. This has been a nightmare.

We initially learned about Baseline at a Home & Garden show about February 2012, the same day we signed up with Angie's List. We were impressed with what we heard from Baseline and what we saw on Angie's List made us feel even better. I guess we didn't delve deeper into the reports as we didn?t notice the negative one regarding subcontractors. Due to financial circumstances we had to postpone our paint job until October. We painted the entire interior except for one bedroom and two bathrooms. Additional work would be put off until next year. We are now rethinking who we should hire.
I have an Hispanic heritage but firmly believe that Americans should support Americans. At the very least, workers should be legal. I specifically asked Brian, in advance, if the painters he was going to send out were legal and he assured me they were. He IMPLIED that he knew this fact as they would be their direct employees. I was scheduled to have some operations in November so once we decided to have the work done we had to fast-track the start date to the end of October. If the late start date meant a change in crews I feel Baseline had an obligation to let me know.
The crew was to start early on October 24. I took the day off to help answer any questions that might come up. The crew showed up about 2:30 in the afternoon and wanted to prep the paint area by moving and covering furniture. I should have been suspicious from the start as their vehicles had no name painted on the side panels. By this time we had gotten desperate so allowed them to begin. When they left for the day our two bedrooms were not useable that night. We were assured the two rooms would be painted and useable by the next night. We were not prepared for this but decided to tough it out. My wife slept on the sofa and I slept on the floor. I have not ?roughed it? for many years and my back took weeks to readjust.
It was highly questionable that the crew was American, let alone legal, as the foreman could speak very little English. He used a young crew member as an interpreter. I never heard the other two crew members speak English. I later learned the crew was indeed a subcontractor. In their defense, they did a reasonably good job of spray painting, but they did miss a couple spots. My wife was less pleased than I was as corners where different colors met needed touchups. She still feels the prior paint (light blue)
is showing through her newly painted room walls. She thinks the paint was not sufficiently applied in that room.
I tried to contact Baseline before the first day to find out if I needed to remove window blinds, but they never replied. The crew ended
up removing them. One set must have been put back up badly as it is still difficult to raise. This part might not be their job, but they
took it on with only partial success. Simple re-hanging of curtains is not their strong suit either.
When you come down to it, it?s been nearly 2 months and we have yet to hear from Baseline to see how well the crew did. It?s as though the job was done and we were no longer of interest to them. Well ?The sword cuts two ways.?
For potential future customers? You might want to get it in writing that they will not subcontract the work. In retrospect, this should have been a deal breaker, but they caught us desperate to get the job done.
There were two areas where the crew failed on painting. A hall lamp and a chandelier in the dining room had areas under the bases that were missed. The chandelier was not even properly re-attached. It?s a wonder it didn?t fall to the table. Perhaps it worked loose when it was being wrapped up, but that doesn?t explain the poor ceiling painting.
Since Baseline sent a subcontractor of questionable legal status, against my wishes, and never followed up to see if we were happy with the work done, we will not be using them to remodel our bathrooms or to have our fence re-stained.

Lousy, except for the sub contractor. The estimator was a gentleman and obviously a good salesman. The office staff was sloppy and at times incompetent. The sub contractors were professional and respectful, do beautiful work and great attention to detail, and the owner of the company caused me a lot of stress and now I hate their company. They couldn't read the paint samples, scream at me, demand a lot more money to finish the job. They misrepresented the fact that no company employees would be here. The owner should have taken responsibility for the misunderstanding...it is my sincere hope that his insistence that I pay an extra $140 for paint , and my reviews on several web sites, will cause him to loose $140,000 of business. They don't tell the truth.
Response from Baseline Painting
"Hi Member! Thank you for taking the time and effort in reviewing our services. We are glad to hear that the estimator and the subcontractors did a beautiful job. We are also sorry to hear that our office staff did not meet your expectations but appreciate the feedback."

Like most people reading this review I was a little bit leery after reading a negative commentary on Angie's List about Baseline. But because they had been so responsive to my questions and concerns, were super courteous, and gave me a price that couldn't be beat, I decided to take a chance...and I am glad that I did!
Baseline did a super job! They were very friendly and answered all of my questions and phone calls in a timely manner. They scheduled a date for our job and when they found themselves ahead of schedule they called us and asked if we would like them to start early. We agreed and they showed up on time and worked fast and furiously, but didn't miss the little details. Everything from the prep work to the clean up was done in a professional, efficient manner. The workers were respectful and careful not to damage any of our plants or decorations. Both the workmanship and the materials were top quality. The result was a high quality paint job finished on budget and ahead of schedule with a minimum of disruption to my family. I could not have been more pleased and I highly recommend Baseline Painting. It was worth every penny.
As for the negative review I read, I don't see it. I can only guess it must be hoity toity, the-world-must-bow-to-my-every-whim type folks who are never happy with anything. My advice- ignore the impossible to please malcontents and call Baseline Painting.

At first when we were searching for painters, we shopped around and got different quotes. The one thing that my husband and myself were looking for was a company that did not hire subcontractors, but a company that had employees, because we didn't want to be subcontracted to someone we didn't know. And that's exactly what happened. When we asked the sales guy the question, do you have employees or do you subcontract the jobs out, and he said that we are a family owned business etc. He didn't lie to us but the words he used did not exactly answer our question and we thought he did. So they are a family owned business but they subcontract out. So what ended up happening was that they subcontracted out job out to some of the people they regularly use. Those people, when they came in, they had certain expectations for communication between the company we hired which was Baseline Painting and the subcontractors. It was not done 100%, in the sense, we have cider wood siding, and that kind of siding tends to weather differently as compared to a non natural material like hardy board or vinyl so the preparation work on our house was a lot more than a vinyl siding house because the paint has weathered out and there was bare wood exposed. So what they needed to do was spend a lot more time prepping the surface before they started painting. The subcontractors, when they came in, they did not realize that it was a wood siding. They thought they could just spend half a day on prepping and then start spray painting on at least day 2. But our house needed about 3 or 4 days in prepping. I did spend a lot of time with the painting crew myself and I explained to them that this is what we had agreed with when we talked to Baseline Paintings, that they would deliver the certain quality that we were looking for. It was news to the subcontractors. Since I was at home and watching them, at the beginning they did make every attempt to satisfy me, but then they said it was too much and the price they had negotiated was, I might not remember correctly, but I think it was 42% after the materials were subtracted from the total. So it was 42% of the profit that Baseline made. So they were very skimpy on the materials because every amount of material that they purchased in turn reduced the profit margin and reduced their share of the profit. So instead of buying a 5 gallon bucket of paint, they would go and buy 1 gallon and then go back and buy another. So eventually we called Baseline and said that we were not happy and we would not pay them unless they gave us the quality we had agreed to. The subcontractor's team that they had assigned, they got so tired of me that they decided to quit the job. We had good communication with the painting team but they said that although they thought it was not unreasonable for me to demand what I was demanding but the agreement that they had with Baseline did not incorporate those demands. So they thought that for the level of quality I expected, they had not negotiated a good enough price with Baseline, although what we were paying Baseline was more than adequate to cover that. So they actually decided to go off on their own and start their own company. Then Baseline sent a second crew which they told me was their A Team. They initially started from scratch and were better than the first team but in the end I will not use them again. We were very disappointed after we had signed the contract because it took a long time to get anyone on the phone and then, a couple of weeks before they sent their first team out, since we were not too happy with the service provided, we tried to complain and it would always go into voicemail and we'd hear back from the person a couple of days later. So I think on the whole it took more than 2 months for the entire job to be finished between the two teams that they had sent out.
