Aspen Builders

I'm writing this review over 2 years after the Aspen completed my finished basement. I'm happy to report that the quality and workmanship has withstood two years of continuous use. We had only a very minor issue with a door not closing after a few months of settling, but Chris sent his carpenter over promptly to remedy the situation. Aspen wasn't the lowest bidder, but when other contractors submitted cartoons or high-level lists with their bids, Chris showed up with detailed drawings, material lists, and soffit layouts. If you want the job done right with minimal headaches, I suggest you consider Aspen Builders.

The first step was to remove the sliding door and install the new French doors. That went well. The next step was to cut two holes in the wall next to the French doors for a sidelight and a dog door. I supplied the French doors that I ordered at Lowes and they delivered. I also went to the Hale store and bought the dog door. Then the trimmer built custom casing to put around the doors and sidelight and also for an adjacent set of existing doors to match. Then the painters came and painted the exterior where the holes had been cut and also the new siding that was installed. They also stained the new French doors and the casing. I had the stain that I wanted them to use to match my existing doors. This was the only event that I wasn't totally happy with. They stained the wood and it was blotchy. So they sanded it all down and restrained it and put a wood primer on first before the stain. That helped a lot to eliminate most of the blotchiness. all in all the whole thing went well and was done in 10 business days.

The job performed by Aspen Builders was fantastic.  Chris listened to our needs (accommodate my father's  disability) and came up with a design plan that surpassed our expectations.  He kept us informed of the schedule and any additional costs (and savings) when we changed some of the finishes.  The project took 12 weeks, which was what was projected at the start.  The crews that worked on the basement were polite, respectful, and did a great job.  They cleaned up after themselves and always remembered to close the gate at the end of the day so we did not have to worry about one of our dogs escaping out of the back yard.  Chris was prompt in responding to all of our concerns/questions that we had during construction.  The cost of the project was reasonable with the amount of space to be finished and the upgrades we selected.

I plan to use them again when it is time to update other parts of the house.  I would strongly recommend them for the quality workmanship, responsiveness to questions, and designing the area to meet specific needs.

The project went well from start to finish. Chris, the company owner, is exceedingly professional and nice, and the work team, led by Patrick were all great. Everyone was friendly and respectful.

The space looks amazing and is exactly what we wanted. Chris was able to help us plan the project based on our list of desires and needs. He was able to offer a great base plan including the floorplan and the initial selection of fixtures and trim (this was helpful as we are not super interested in picking out tiles, fixtures, etc.) and we just had a and quot;big pictureand quot; idea of what we wanted. He offered some great options and we were able to just tweak what he suggested to our liking.

The workmanship was amazing, everything about the project turned out great. Our house had it's challenges (i.e., crooked walls, cracked floors, old heating system, etc.) but the final product is just great.

The project took slightly longer than we anticipated (I think maybe all remodeling and construction projects do?)...most of the delays were not the fault of Aspen Builders, but were associated with permits, inspections and inclement weather.

Chris and Patrick were careful to make sure that we were happy with all aspects of the project before we closed it out, and were also very accommodating working around our schedule with a new baby arriving and me working at home while the project was in progress (e.g., communicating about when there would be noises or odors that we might want to avoid or reschedule).

There were a few moderate changes that we wanted mid-way through the project (e.g., custom door)and the team made it work without any hassle. We very much appreciated this.


We were VERY happy with Aspen Builders and highly recommend them.

It was a great experience working with Aspen Builders!  We discussed our needs and Chris was able to come up with a great design. We had excellent communication with all parties involved. I loved our project calendar to see where we were with the process.  There were no delays which seems rare when working with construction! All the subs we had contact with were friendly as well.
Would use them again.
