We hired this company to refinish our railing and stairs at a price that was satisfactory. I offered to do some of my own taping and prep-work to alleviate what I thought was a high cost project. Was told there’d be 2 people working and a couple of days. Supposed to get a heads up call on day one. First day came (day late) no call. One guy, yes, one guy just showed up, not 2. Crappy first impression. First reaction from him was shock to see how much I prepped! Said no one has EVER done that. He did work the first day in-between 20-30 min smoke breaks almost every hour, did the tenting and started sanding with my assistance as well. Came back the next day still by himself and at the end of day 2, STILL not finished with the sanding step even though I was also helping where I could. I started asking some questions. Especially how little he was getting accomplished at the end of the 2 days. Looking for confident reassurance like ‘This part always takes longest’, etc. Instead, I was met with inadequate answers and as I later learned, actual job abandonment. Day 3 and I was called by Bryan (the owner) late morning telling me he was going to complete the job. Was actually a little surprised to see that effort put forth from the owner! That’s (100%) something I would have done if I were him. The previous person worked a total of 9 hours over a two day period by the way. So ‘2 days to finish the project’? I can certainly understand, there’s a possibility for something to take longer than normal (as was in this case). However, it was because the first guy decided to pull carpet on the stairs (which actually was the right way to do this). Bryan asked if we had any carpet to replace it as to avoid pulling 1000s of staples from the old carpet. We were able to accommodate him yet again to avoid the pain of removing 1000's of staples which I had even already spent a couple of hours doing. I worked right along with Bryan the ENTIRE time he was here. I was basically his unpaid helper for 3 days!! After I spent more time on my own project than both of them put together by taping, sanding, spraying color and applying clear coat finish…I thought I’m working on my own project now.’ The stair/railing project finally got finished and it was time to square up and I felt like if I asked for a small discount (I do mean small) it would certainly be granted because I was involved with ALL of the work!! Not only was I DENIED this request, I was never actually even THANKED for making his job easier and I honestly couldn’t believe it. Instead of getting into it with him, stating the obvious that had I not done anything at all, they’d still be working on my house for a couple more days! It was already more than double the time I was told it would take now at 5 days (self induced by them). I just paid him. This is absolutely not about the money. It’s the proverbial ‘principle’. He denied my request and obviously this company is in desperate need of money. I spent loads of my personal time on this including taking time off work! I’m simply shocked that he didn’t honor my request. Or even COUNTER with a smaller discount!! I texted him once he left the house (after he was paid in full) to give him one more opportunity to do / say the right thing. Not to my surprise, he never even had the courtesy to respond to my message and that said it all. I wouldn’t have needed to leave this review if he was a stand up guy and just tried using a little honest integrity. My final thoughts are that I’d steer clear of this company. I’ve learned that price isn’t always the most important part of the transaction. Competency and the ability to answer simple questions about the work being performed (that you’re spending your hard earned dollars on) is just as important. There's plenty of companies out there that will not put you through what I was put through and may actually do the job 100% on their own, you know. Without your assistance. By the way, the finished project turned out great. After all, I had more time in it than they did!

This was the absolute worst experience that I had with a contractor. Above Parr not order the parts when I provided 50% deposit in June. Therefore the parts did not arrive in time for the owner to do the job as he predicted. The owner, Bryan Parr, on several occasions stated he was out of town to delay delivery of the parts. It took 6 months of disputing with the credit card and going to court with Above Parr to finally receive the parts and cash back for the labor that was not performed. The owner refused to give me a refund for the parts because he claimed that they were custom made in Texas. When he delivered the parts, not only did one of the wooden posts top fall off (because it was broken) but the box holding the balusters had Made in China printed on the outside. I finally decided to have my staircase railing sanded and stained by Loyalty Painting. The staircase looks brand new. So if you have wood balusters, consider refinishing them before replacing them with cheap looking wrought iron balusters that are made in China.

I made a deposit payment of $2700 to Above Parr to replace my staircase on June 30, 2018. Bryan, the owner, stated that he would complete the job by July 25th. When we got close to the completion date, Bryan stated he could not finish the job on time. I asked him not to start the work and to provide a refund. On July 23rd, he confessed that the parts that he was supposed to have ordered in early July had not arrived and that was why he could not finish the job by July 25th. I requested that he once again provide a refund for the deposit I gave him. He stated I owed him for the parts and that he owed me a refund for the labor since no work was performed. I've been in contact with Bryan multiple times via phone/text. The last time I phoned him on Oct 1st to ask him to deliver the parts. He gave an excuse that he was out of town for a week and that he would deliver the parts on Monday or Tuesday of the following week. Monday and Tuesday arrived and I didn't hear anything from Bryan. I called him and there was no answer. I still have not received the parts nor the refund that Above Parr owes me for the labor not performed. His unprofessional behavior has made me not want to work with independent contractors at all.

My neighbor recommended Above Parr to me for my new floors. She had her Brazilian cherry floors screened and coated and they are absolutely gorgeous again. They did such a great job and she was happy with Bryan and his crew. So I hired him to install my floor. Bryan was very knowledgeable and attentive to what I wanted. I am very picky and tough on contractors and he listened to me, every detail, and took care of everything. My floors are completely gorgeous. They are solid, no little cracks or blemishes. They were very careful of my belongings and always left my home clean. As with any type of construction that includes making dust, I had already planned on getting my air ducts cleaned afterwards because one cannot expect that there will not be dust when having your floors done. But it was not excessive after they were done. I will be calling Bryan when I need my screen and coat in a couple years. And I will recommend him to everyone.

New floor and stairs are the envy of the neighborhood. We hired Bryan Parr over others because he actually works with his team on the jobs. He had many good suggestions about the job, and his team members were friendly and professional artisans - in the best sense of the word. Also, when we got in a jam finishing some of the trim - which we had decided to do ourselves - Bryan brought his guys over and helped us finish on time. Really great. The floors were not cheap, but we comparison shopped with others and his prices were in line with the market.

The fit and the finish are exceptional and we love the finished product.  Bryan kept to his original contract amount and  there were no hidden charges.  The refinished floor blends perfectly with the new flooring and has the appearance of new flooring as well.

Do give the contractor enough time to for craftsmanship.  It is a rare commodity in this day and age, and as a result, we certainly enjoy our new floors and stairway.

If something is not to your liking, let him know.  If it  is reasonable, he will take care of your concerns.

Horrible Experience. The work is sub-standard and incomplete. The problems include: 1. The bathroom door was never finished; the hardwood does not break under the bathroom door it is off by 3 inches. 2. The trim under the nosing is not caulked nor are the nails caulked. 3. There are deep gouges in the bottom of the door jams at the front and pantry doors. 4. The 6 panel door was cut too short. My hand fits under the door when it is closed. 5. Nails are sticking up in both the floor and the nosing. 6. The floor has holes the size of an eraser head around some nail holes. 7. The floor was not layed out properly, too many small boards are next to each other and the breaklines are too close together on many sections of the floor. It is amateur work. The company took 27 days for a job estimated would be completed in 3 days. The installer was rude and inappropriate.
