Home Building
The contractor agreed to build our home for a fixed price. He built the foundation 3.5 feet below required grade, causing serious drainage problems. After that error, I learned that he had to be supervised on a daily basis, so I moved to the construction site. I delt with his mistakes, lies, unapproved changes, quality issues, and schedule slippage on a daily basis. After we signed the termination agreement, I learned that he had pocketed about $30,000, rather than paying his suppliers and subcontractors. In Colorado, subcontractors and suppliers can lien the victim, effectively causing the victim to pay double.
