Awful. Steve Newton, owner of NewCon Construction, scammed me (and several others who found him on Craigslist). Claimed to have 3 staff working for him. None of them are his employees. He merely hires subcontractors when he can get them. Never shows up to do any work OR oversee any work. But, he shows up promptly for payments. Then front loads the payments so that over 2/3 of the fee is collected within the first 5 days--even though very little has been done. He collected nearly $3500 of a $5200 contract in the first 5 days, and had barely scratched the surface. The subcontractors rarely show up with excuse after excuse. Then when I threatened to file a claim against his insurance (which denied my claim), he pulls off the job and doesn't return my calls and doesn't respond to the BBB complaint I filed. I tried to hire 3 other contractors to complete the work and all 3 said it needed to be torn out and redone--which I did at additional expense. His contract is illegal--completion date is just a "goal" (red flag number 1) and he has a clause stating that if you hire someone else to finish the work, you forfeit all payments to him (red flag number 2). These will not hold up in court--especially when he walks off the job.
Description of Work: Needed new cabinets and countertops, etc.

This business owner named Steve Newton advertises that his projects will get done well and on time, neither of which was even close to my experience. This is a business owner who obviously has zero interest in repeat business or getting customers by positive word of mouth. My project started with his new hire that hung the sheetrock so badly that it had to actually be removed and completely redone. Screws too deep or not deep enough, screws not imbedded in wood, bad cuts, bad matching, incorrect seams and placement. Steve didn't show up for several days, then admitted it was terrible work, but demanded more payment even though I had already paid for work that must be redone. He said if I didn't pay the next installment that nobody would come back any time soon to do the work, so I paid. The total paid was more than enough to pay the normal market price for finished sheetrock, i.e. hung, taped, mud and textured. After that Steve never returned to my home, and left me with a weeks long string of promises to send contractors who never showed. One team did, but they only rehung part of the sheetrock properly, Steve claimed he was the one who would finish it. That was nearly a month ago, and he just kept setting appointment after appointment then never showing up and rarely bothering to call or text to say so. I heard excuse after excuse, appointment after appointment. When a plumber did finally return, he informed me that Steve told him I would be paying 1400.00 outside of the contracted amount for drains on my toilet, sink and shower, an amount Steve never mentioned and I knew nothing about, since he is supposedly the General Contractor in charge of the sub-contractors. He also told me that Steve owed him money from months back, making him the second subcontractor to say so. Steve kept picking completion date after completion date, and would confirm appointments even multiple times, but then not show up. I sat in my house most of the last month unable to leave, awaiting his latest excuse. Everybody has life things, but professionals and polite people actually notify you when they're going to be late, but not this supposed professional. So to sum it up, do NOT choose this contractor unless you love having substandard and uncompleted work! If there was a 0 star rating that's what I'd have to choose.
Description of Work: Services that were supposed to be performed included a $4500.00 price to include: Sheetrock install, mud, tape and texture, 90 sheets, and install new toilet, shower and sink in bathroom.
