I searched Angie's list because I wanted to installed Wallpaper in my new home (2 accent walls, 1 bathroom and 1 closet). Based on the amazing reviews for Gene, I made the phone call and asked for an appointment to get an estimate and also direction on how much wallpaper to order (especially since i have large windows...don't want to waste expensive paper). It was a Thursday and Friday afternoon and Gene answered right away. He seemed very nice and was able to setup an appointment for me that coming Monday at 9 AM. I was able to move some meetings around at work and planned on a late arrival to office to support the 9 AM Wallpaper installation estimate. After waiting at the house until almost noon, I realized he was going to be a no show and headed into work. I will say, that it seemed that Gene was on the phone in his truck (or car) when I made the appointment the previous week, however, I never received any phone call cancelling the appointment or even following the appointment.
At this point, I waited a week and then decided to give it another chance. We all make mistakes and things happen. I called Gene and left him a voice mail prior to the Memorial Day weekend. I mentioned that we had an appointment that he didn't show up to, but that I was still interested in getting an estimate. Following the holliday weekend, I received a phone call from Gene on my way home from work..however the conversation was as follows "Hello, this is Tony" (me), "Sorry have wrong number" (Gene)...followed by a quick hangup. At this point I have never received a phone call back.
I was very interested in hiring Gene, but now I have started contacting other Wallpaper hangers.
I'd been told by a very popular paper hanger in town that Gene's reputation was stellar and that he had worked on many historic projects. That was comforting for us because we are restoring a 1911 Denver Square in Park Hill and the reproduction paper we used was very expensive and it took a long time to get it from the artist/manufacturer in Massachusetts.
Gene was punctual and efficient. His work organization and management were excellent and he kept his space clean while protecting our floors and furniture. He made good suggestions. It was a marvel to watch him cut the paper, apply the glue and put it on the wall. It was as if the paper knew that he was a "paper master" because everything always went right! The paper always "cooperated" and there were NO dicey moments. If you've ever tried to hang wallpaper you know exactly what i mean! EXPERIENCE COUNTS!
Gene was really the master of the paper and the job! We are 100% satisfied with his work and would recommend him, without reservation, to any of our friends or clients.
