The front yard was just finished and the retaining wall is wonderful! The design was able to keep an existing tree in place and mixed in a variety of materials (rocks, mulch, a variety of plants) and blends in nicely with the design of the back yard. We included the sprinkler system in the front as well and the whole job took much less time than I anticipated. The crew (I think one guy was actually on the team from the back yard, too) was also very hardworking and pleasant to be around. They kept everything as clean as possible during the whole process. Some compost was even thrown in the back yard and the grass sure is green now!
The front office staff is very willing to work with special requests and answer all questions. The company does want to make sure you are happy.
I have four small jobs that need to be done in my yard, including cleanup, fencing and a small tree removal. I decided to go with this company, even though they were more expensive, simply because they would supposedly get the work done sooner than some other contractors were promising.
I was originally told two to three weeks from when I signed the proposal. Then we kept getting a lot of rain off and on during May. Since they did not seem inclined to keep me informed on when they would start the work, I had to keep emailing them for a status. Supposedly the rains were delaying some other jobs, so my job was delayed as well. That was certainly understandable! But you'd think they'd bother to let me know?
More rains and more delays. Still no updates, so I had to keep emailing them for a status. Now I'm told it wouldn't be until sometime in July...but since it appeared I was eager to get the work done sooner, I should get another company to do the work! When I asked if there might be some way to get one or two of the small tasks done sooner and put the rest off until later....I was met with silence. They didn't even have the courtesy to get back to me.
In my opinion, not a very reliable company.
They also cleaned up each day. The crews were friendly and hardworking.
Amy at Outside Dreams designed our landscaping and I trust her with all of the design, plant choices, placement, etc. She did a great job of balancing the plants and making it look nice.
There were a couple of other issues but when brought to Amy's attention were fixed right away. For instance the strip stone was supposed to be glued, but they starting using grout, leaving grey cement in-between the stone. Once we pointed that out they ripped it out and redid it.
Overall I would say they did a great job, just make sure to go over the design and stay on top of the work they are doing. Probably good advice for any project.
"Outside Dreams does stand behind our work. Everything went well through this project. He did ask us if drywall repair was part of the estimate and we said no, but we would through it in for him to make him happy. He did ask for a manual on his irrigation and we told him that we do not provide this (besides the irrigation clock manual). We walked him through how to operate, winterize, and turn on the irrigation. We programmed his clock and provided information on how to maintain his yard. In the spring when he turned on his system, he called and said that he had water coming out of the backflow. We told him that we could come and take a look, but if it was something that was not warrantee, there would be a small trip charge. When he got upset, I called him myself to see exactly what was going on and where the water was coming from. Over the phone, I walked him through how to turn on the irrigation. We found that when he turned it on, he didn't close all of the appropriate valves. I also informed him that we do offer sprinkler turn on and off through our maintenance division. He said that he didn't want to pay for that service. This was not a case of us not honoring his warrantee."
