When I got the bill, i discovered that Brakes Plus has charged about $4 extra for the 5-20 W oil. I pointed out that I had initially requested 5-30 W oil and was not told that the recomended 5-20 W oil would cost extra. Had I been told the the 5-20 W oil would cost extra, I would not have approved it's use. The counter man aplogized for the situation and increased the coupon discount to lower the cost of the job to me by $3, so that the final cost to me was only abut $1 more than I would have paid for the 5-30 W oil.
Now, this seemd like a reasonable settlement to the dispute that I had. But the coupon discount and the Brkes Plus oil recommendation is somewhat deceptive in that the coupon limits the oil weight to 10-30 W, while Brakes Plus charges more for 10-20 W oil that they recommended for my Civic. The Civic owner's manual specifically recommends 10-30 W oil. Hence, Brakes Plus is recommending an oil weight that is inconsistent with my owner's manual and using the Brakes Plus recommendation to justify charging more for the oil that is used. A customer should be able to rely on the recommendation of a Auto Service company without having to check on everything they say. I am disapointed.
Unless Brakes Plus clearifies their procedures in a future similar situation, I would not recommend to others tthat they rely on offered Service Specials without reading and understanding all conditions and limitation that apply.
