After surveying the job and quoting me the very reasonable price on the work, several thousand dollars less than other larger companies. He began the work in a very timely manner. He informed me initially that it would take approximately 4 days to complete the work. After he started he found that he had underestimated the number of days and informed me it would be an extra 2-3 days. This was a second home for me and I was unable to be there for the extra days. After the initial 4 days in early Dec. 2008, he had completed the hot water heater installation, and had completed approximately estimated 80% of the work. He requested and I gave him additional money, which was my mistake. I believed he would complete the job in another 2-3 days. The total I paid him was about 90% of the total estimate. HE NEVER SHOWED UP AGAIN except to get his tools and do a minimal straightening up. He was almost never responded to multiple phone calls, and text messaged me 4 times over the next 4 months that he would complete the work "this week" or " next weekend". Initially he said he was ill and had a kidney stone and could not work, I gave him benefit of the doubt, but when he went back to work he never showed up in spite of his messages that the work would be completed. I was out in Vail 3 times between Jan and end of March and each time he said he would be done before I came back and I could tell he never showed up to work or complete the job. After 4 months at the end of March, I fired him and had to find another contractor to finish. It cost me an additional $4000+ dollars. What he did was OK work but he was unreliable and did not finish the job. I believe he owes me money back for work not completed and paid for, As of this writing, he has still not responded to my request for return of funds or a final accounting of expenses.
