TL;DR - Hiring David was the single worst financial decision I have ever made. He is unlicensed, uninsured, and lies about his capabilities. He stole our money and didnt finish the job - he truly fits the definition of the term con man. Do not hire. He has another company by the name 'Lonestar Construction and Design LLC and has fled Colorado to avoid legal pursuit. David was a sub on some previous work at our home. We hired him primarily because we had a tight timeline before my wife gave birth, and he said he could be done prior. We gave him a sizable deposit, and he moved an enormous number of tools into our basement, like we were a storage unit. We later learned its because he was transient between places to live, had no truck, and needed a place to keep them all. Demo went quickly, but everything went downhill from there. About the work & damage: Its a lot, so I will just list off a lot of the major issues. *dropped a deck into our house and broke multiple windows+ damaged siding, which we had to pay to repair (he was uninsured). *Put in the wrong size window wells, did not add headers to the window well cuts, and botched all the electrical - spent over $10k correcting those later. *Poured the dirt from the window wells all over our landscaping and we lost significant amounts of river rock. *Caused a major leak and made us pay him extra for the repair. *Asked for cash advances because he burned through our initial funds. * Incorrectly plumbed the shower. * Clogged the main sewer line. * Did the worst texture and paint I have ever seen in my life (and I am a realtor). * Damaged all the lighting. * There is a LOT more, but I am limited on characters. Professionalism: Turns out he had no crew, he was going to try to solo the entire job in a very tight timeframe. Found out later that he had no licenses, no insurance, and was pulling no permits. He hired random people to try to speed up work - e.g. a car detailer, a part time firefighter, and a handyman with no tools of his own. We constantly overheard how-to videos being watched on YouTube for basic things. He took a vacation when the job was already significantly overdue. He lied and pretended to be working offsite for things on our job, but was working elsewhere. The workspace was complete chaos all the time I have never seen such a huge mess (tools and debris underfoot everywhere). About him / customer service: David fast became the unwelcome guest in our home. He never arrived at a consistent time and entered without knocking or notifying us. When he did, he spent a good chunk of time each morning going #2 in our powder room (even if he arrived as late as 10am). He brought his dog over without permission to hang out in our home and just assumed it was OK - we have two large dogs, were going through a stressful reno, and my wife was pregnant - no thank you! He rifled through our kitchen without asking (I found dirty silverware and cups buried in the basement debris). He once had a friend over to help bandage a cut, and she stayed for hours like it was a hangout until we told her she needed to leave. After being weeks overdue, with no end in sight, we told David to give us whatever materials he had purchased and to move along. We had paid for 100% materials upfront, but obviously did not get them. He embezzled our money to fund his day to day life instead. We told him we needed repayment for the missing materials and incomplete work, and he told us he had no money. Further attempts to reach him went unanswered and we later learned he fled the state to avoid legal pursuit from the customer he had lined up after us. David opened this new LLC (Lone Husky) and is obviously trying to work in Georgia now. If you have hired him for any work, keep a close eye on what he did - I would not trust it not to leak, break, burn, etc. down the road. If you are consideri...
