INDEPENDENT ROOFING INC

We had Independent Roofing do our roof on the referral of a friend. We will never use them again. Our roof was a warranty claim on faulty shingles. As things progressed we asked what we might owe that the claim may not cover. Repeatedly, we were told that everything was ok, that there would be some labor for tear off and for some materials not covered under the warranty claim. In the end we received an invoice for almost $3000. When I asked for an itemized receipt for the $3000 charge I was to told that would be hard to decipher. Then just a lot of excuses about why I could not and would not be receiving an itemized invoice. And was told by the owner himself that he should have just not done our roof and walked away. In the end, I cut my losses and paid the invoice. Do not use Independent Roofing. I still do not know what the $3000 charge was for and at this point I don't care. I should have gone with Martinez Roofing, at least they are honest and up front with what they are charging you for. If I could have given zero stars I would have.

After being inundated by roofers from all over, I contacted Independent Roofing based on a word-of-mouth recommendation --- Steve Cooper came out quickly, measured our roof and got the proposal to us the next day. We were concerned that Winter was going to close in before we got our roof on --- no problem. Steve recommended a high-quality shingle (Class 4 hail resistance) that looks great (we went with Malarkey Windsor, Natural Wood).

The shingles showed up as planned, and were stocked on the roof --- 2 days later, as promised, the Independent Roofing crew showed up bright and early. It is a quality job, and to my pleasant surprise Steve Cooper also showed-up and worked several hours on the roof windows' installations, and ensure the quality that he suggested separated Independent Roofing from many others that I've seen in our neighborhood.

I appreciated the straight-talk and professional communication --- when I had to call the office, the staff there (Janice and Jonda) were always very helpful.

This was the kind of professional service and follow-up that seems to be lacking in many providers these days --- I would recommend Independent Roofing to anyone. I'm glad to pass the word along on Angie's List.

Workers were great. Fast, courteous, efficient. Manager/owner, in contrast, was terrible. Did not return phone calls, did not show up on time, but seemed like he was laid-back and relaxed. Main problem, however, was that I specifically requested hail-resistant shingles. Owner forgot to include them on the invoice so they did not go on the roof. When I asked him what had happened, he denied that he had no recollection of that conversation and refused to give me any compensation. Suddenly, the laid-back dude turned into a cut-throat businessman; I realized that he was not easy-going, but rather a flake who covers his mistakes with aggression. This costs me about $100/month in increased insurance.

Work was done on time and in a professional manner. Although I did have to have them come back to paint the roof jacks, I still am very pleased with the overall job.
