ADVANCED AUTO PROS INC
About us
Hi my name is Rick Bilger and I own Advanced Auto Pro’s Inc. You may have heard we were honored recently by the Better Business Bureau, receiving the Torch Award for business Ethics in 2008. I would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to stop in and give us a try. We have been growing like crazy lately, and want you to experience what it’s like to enjoy automotive service like no other. We have been working to create an automotive repair facility that stands miles above the rest. I’m pleased to say that I believe we are well on our way to achieving that goal. I’ve made a bold claim to be Greeley’s best automotive repair facility, however I can back that claim up with 5 important reasons why it’s really true... 1. Best Technicians (We employ master technicians certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. We spend an average of $14,753.00 per year on technical training to stay current on the cutting edge technology.) 2. Best Warranty (We offer a full 2 year 24,000 mile warranty on every job we do – that’s 8 times longer than national chains and 2 times longer than even the dealer!) 3. Best Service a. Loaner vehicles available b. A shuttle service to take you to/from home or work while your vehicle is in for service c. Low rates for rental cars. d. We will pick up your car from your home or office and return it when the service is complete. 4. Best Equipment (We have the latest equipment and tools to provide quick and accurate diagnosis - including the same equipment as many dealers, and rivaling some!) 5. Best Employees Our employees are the most Honest and ethical people in the auto repair industry. They are part of my family. They know what I expect! We talk in easy to understand language. Not a lot of technical mumbo jumbo. If you don’t understand what we are saying, how can you make the best decision for your car’s needs? 6. Best Price ( Our prices are the best in town! We regularly beat estimates from dealers and other repair shops by 20% or more! ) According to Info USA there are 2,982 automotive repair shops listed in Colorado Yellow page advertisements including independents, dealerships, and national chain stores. Out of these 2,982 only 50 are blue seal rated by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, this means that we open ourselves to stringent technician certification standards. Of those 50, only 13 are also acknowledged by AAA as an approved repair facility, AAA requires an ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction. I’m very proud to say that my company is one of those 13 elite shops. Don’t take my word for it, listen to what a few of our clients have to say... “I get information I need. I can then decide what I can afford at the time. You’re honest! You explain in detail each repair, the benefits and give accurate estimates, preventative maintenance tips and recommendations.” Dana Huff a machine operator from Evans “This company has provided friendly, reliable service for my aging Honda. They are always upfront about what needs to be done to keep the car in good, safe, condition. The one impressive aspect of service at Advanced Auto Pro’s is their courteous, non condescending conduct to me as a woman, I really appreciate that!” When asked what she received specifically from our business relationship she responded “First and foremost is having peace of mind that my car will function at its most efficient and safe level. The second thing (not in order of importance) is honest assessments of what needs to be done and the costs involved. Thanks!!” Claire Barta client for over 10 years “Advanced Auto Pro’s has my complete faith. They have performed prompt, cost efficient, and dependable service and repairs on all my vehicles. They recently did extensive work reconditioning and making my daughters Honda Accord roadworthy. They do not miss things in need of...

I explained that my car had died right off the highway at Dearfield, CO and that I needed it towed and inspected (I suspected it needed a new fuel pump).
I asked for the approximate cost of a fuel pump change for my model of vehicle, for which I was told $400 - $500. He did say that he was kind of shooting from the hip and wasn't entirely sure at the moment. I told him that was a steep price, so he said that if I used their service, he would do the towing for free. I said okay. I then mentioned that I would have to walk quite a distance to get the key to the van over to him (I work at UNC), so he promptly offered to pick up the key using their valet service, which I think was a great display of professionalism and value.
However, after the towing had taken place and I got a call from them, it went downhill:
First of all, they apologize that they didn't realize how much the towing service would cost them. "That's a long way to tow!" was the person's exact words, to which I responded "Yeah, but I told you how far it was to begin with." He apologized that he would just not be able to cover the entire cost of the tow, which was supposedly $150, but that he would cover half (if I went with their service). He then proceeded to quote me something around $700 for the fuel pump replacement cost. He apologized for being off on his original estimate, but that he couldn't go any lower. He said the part alone was going to cost them something like $400. I explained I couldn't understand how it could be that expensive when I can buy one myself online for under $200. He said he could go could knock the price down $100 for an aftermarket fuel pump, but couldn't go any lower.
At this point was looking at paying the $150 towing bill + $50 to tow it someplace else + approx. $500 to get the fuel pump replaced someplace else + extra time, or paying $75 for towing + $600 for the fuel pump at AAP. I felt like they were taking advantage of the situation and trying to milk me for more a little more money than it was really worth.
The biggest disappointment was them flat out not honoring their own offer to pay for the towing service when they were fully aware of what it would entail, and even despite the fact that they were off on their initial estimate of the repair cost. In the end, they did a good job and did it quick, but the pump they replaced it with is a little noisy (I guess that's the drawback of the "aftermarket" pump I went with). I have since gone to other local shops in town and have been more impressed with them, especially the pricing.
I dropped by 10/13/14 to schedule an appointment to have an oxygen sensor installed on my Mother's car so it would pass Colorado emissions testing. I met Joel, who recommended that AAP perform their own emissions test at a cost of $89. Joel also told me that to install the sensor would be $150 plus the cost of the sensor. I had previously called Weld County Garage to price the sensor and was given a price of $120.
I dropped the car off on 10/9/14 and was met by Jacob. I mentioned that I had previously talked to Joel and added that I also wanted an oil change and that there was a chirping noise in the region of the serpentine belt that wanted silenced. Jacob said they would take care of everything and call me the next day.
Late Friday afternoon I got a call from Jacob. He informed me that they were unable to do anything to my vehicle due to an accident at the shop. I was told I would have to leave the car over the weekend and that they would look at it first thing Monday.
By Monday afternoon 10/13/14 I had not heard from Jacob at AAP. I called only to learn that they still had not looked at my car because they were short of techs. Jacob admitted that he should have called to inform me and apologized for dropping the ball.
Tuesday 10/14/14 Jacob calls and tells me that they have installed the sensor, and that their testing indicates that 5 of the 8 fuel injectors on the car need be replaced. He gives me a price of approximately $1,400 to get the car repaired and "out the door," but that I would still probably need a catalytic converter as well costing another $800.
I tell Jacob to proceed with the fuel injectors, and to retest the emissions.
I get a call back 10 minutes later saying that he could not stand by the first price he quoted me. He says that the parts dealer gave him bad information and that the price of the injectors were $185 a piece, not $185 for the set. (You would think that a certified auto mechanic would know the approximate price of a fuel injector. Guess not.) So, now the total just to install the fuel injectors has climbed past $2,000.
I tell him I do not want to put that amount of money in to the car at this point and to stop making any more repairs. I assume the oil change and belt chirping has been addressed because Jacob does not mention them in any of our conversations.
I pay for the repairs over the phone and I pick up the car on 10/15/14 after AAP has closed.
I start the car and immediately hear the chirping sound. It has not been repaired, but they charge $30 to assess it and say they will advise the customer on how to remedy it. They never mentioned this once. I assumed this was an easy fix and had been taken care of.
Then I notice I have been billed $149 for an emissions test that I was told would be only $89.
Bottom line: The only things they did to the car was install the oxygen sensor and change the oil. It took nearly a week for them to do that. They charged me $30 dollars to tell me what I already knew about the chirping sound, and they over charged me for a test that they told me would be $50 cheaper. When I called back to inquire why the chirping was not fixed I was told that Jacob was not there at the time and that he would contact me the next day. I never heard from him and had to call. He told me that he had informed me that the car needed a new belt to solve the chirping sound. I told him that this was the first time he had mentioned a new belt and he still disagreed with me. He also could not explain why his co-worker quoted me a lower price for the emissions test.
I returned to get some paperwork that they had failed to place back in the vehicle and I again questioned Jacob on the pricing and the fail to inform me about the belt. It was obvious that I was getting now where with him and I said I will not bring any vehicle of mine back to AAP.
I didn't even get a "sorry it took us a week to change your oil."
Don't take your car here.
"[member name removed] I am very sorry you had the experience you did at my company Advanced Auto Pros. I do want to tell you the back story of what was happening during the week while we were attempting to provide the type of service you and all of our clients deserve. Joel's mind has been distracted by the impending death of his grandmother. The technician working on your car seriously cut his face and hand. My father a part owner and big part of what we have built at Advanced Auto Pros died. Its been kind of a perfect storm that has really thrown all of us off our game. All of this being said you deserved more than what you received. You will receive a full refund as soon as I get back to town. We realize that sometimes you don't get second chances but if you ever decide to give me and my team a chance to prove that the recommendation you first received from your friend was deserved we would be appreciative of that opportunity. Respectfully Rick Bilger President Advanced Auto Pros"
"We regret that you were inconvenienced and had to come back in for the same problem. We were trying to save you money by repairing the door handle problem instead of replacing the handle."
- They are really honest. We always have the fear of getting ripped off when we go for an oil change or a service. I feel comfortable with them. They always go over on everything with me. They are really quick. They were very nice. Their prices are within the reason. They are fun. They explain things to me if I don?t understand and show it with examples. They are very pleasant. I feel like they honestly care. They are just very nice. If I have to trust auto mechanics, they will be the ones. They are excellent.
"First let me apologize for not responding quickly to this review I wasn’t aware it had been posted. Regrettably you did have some issues in a short span with your car. The first was that it wouldn’t start when turning the key and only clicked. We did a test of the starter, alternator, and battery and found poor connections at the battery. After this was corrected the battery passed the three tests that we do on it. The cost for that test and repair was $36.66. Sometime later your car died while you were driving and was towed in to us. We found that the igniter had failed, we also tested the ignition coil which is what the igniter controls or switches. We found that the coil was bad as well and replaced it because it most likely was the cause of the igniter failing. This repair cost was $622.49. According to your post the battery failed some time later and was low on water. This would be related to the first test that we did the battery did pass our testing but yes we should have checked the water level at that time which could have saved you frustration and inconvenience. However the battery problem certainly would not have been related to the second repair that we did for you. As for the other recommendations we made for repairs and maintenance we try very hard to give our clients an honest overview of the condition of their vehicle and how best to keep it trouble free and fun to drive. Our policy is to recommend only items that 10 out of 10 certified technicians would agree need attention. From time to time we have some who disagree with our recommendations but usually when the observation is clearly discussed and understood the value of the recommendation holds up. We apologize for the inconvenience our oversight during the battery testing caused you."
