Hired this company to build and install cabinets for our small custom office space. Waited 1 week for "Shop drawings" which were chicken scratches hand written with sketched out numbers on our original plans - nothing to scale or site verified. He took no on-site measurements other than the floor to ceiling. Should have been the first RED FLAG.
2 weeks later upon delivery cabinets - they were not square and put together extremely poorly with very noticeable nicks and scratches where melamine was actually broken off that he touched up on site with white paint - also very poorly. Cabinet door "system" was a thin piece of PVC screwed to one of the cabinet doors. Slider board shelves varied from 1/8 to 3/4" and were not straight. Door did not open properly. Big Mess! second RED FLAG
When I originally refused the 2 slider board cabinets completely and asked that Richard and his installer take them back with them - the installer commented that what we received "is the best that they are capable of doing". VERY BIG RED FLAG!!! After expressing my concern of that comment to Richard he convinced me to keep these cabinets and promised that he'd come back and fix them enough to be usable in the interim while he builds new doors for the base and new slider board cabinets to replace them. He did come back that weekend with a hand held router and although the slider spaces finally fit the 20" dimension originally given - none were straight. I brought in a professional woodworker for his opinion and he said it was the worst that he had ever seen and that there was no way Richard is a custom cabinet builder. Photos are available upon request. final RED FLAG!!!
I emailed Richard that same day to express how unhappy we were and he again promised that we would be happy with the rebuild and replacement of these cabinets and that it would be a couple of weeks for the replacements. 4 weeks go by and I do not hear anything... (Space opened April 1st and our first event was 04/26). Now the Owner of our company became involved and contacted Richard for an update and was told that he was on a deadline installing a kitchen currently and we would have to wait for the new cabinets until he could get to them on the 3rd week of May. Which is this week so I called Richard today and was told that he is now delayed another 2 weeks on his Kitchen project. We've paid for this project almost in full so there has been no regard on Richard's behalf to complete it.
Our biggest company event for this year is being held at this space on 06/12 so I genuinely hope that Richard comes through with his promise. If he does or doesn't I will update this post.
The crew (except for the painter) was reliable, friendly, and most importantly, trustworthy. They cleaned up throughout the day, and at the end of the day made sure any exposed areas (such as floor joists or studs) were covered up to keep our dog and kid from getting into there and getting hurt.
The work came with an 18 month warranty, which we've used when we had some sealant that needed to be redone. There was never any question about them performing the work (we just called them last week and are waiting to have them come out, though we're confident they will be out as soon as they can and fix the problem to our satisfaction).
The painter was, frankly, awful. He used the wrong color white to touch up the ceiling and then had to come back to fix it. He textured the bathroom walls completely wrong, and did a poor job at that. His painting was sloppy and it took a long time for him to come out to fix it. Out of frustration, we fixed all the painting ourselves. Rich agreed with our assessment of the painting and had a different crew promptly come out to try to fix up the poor texturing (it's much better, though not perfect). The original painter held up progress of the job and was the source of frustration for several of us.
That being said, the painter no longer works with Rich so in our mind, the problem was addressed.
The project took a few weeks longer than projected, but the end result was absolutely worth it.
The price was steep, though for the extent of the work, was right in line, if not a bit cheaper, than other estimates.
We hope to update our guest bath flooring and plumbing in the future, and will have absolutely no hesitation in calling Rich to get it done.
We highly recommend his work, from his thoroughness in the estimate to his professionalism.
