After completion, our deck never looked this good. It is old and showing wear and tear from 35 years of service but they did a great job of restoring a deck that was showing it's age. They arrived on time, completed the job as specified, and cleaned up the area they had used. We have enjoyed our "new" deck all summer, in no small part due to their great workmanship. Given the Colorado climate, outdoor decks take a real beating. However, after our experience we DeckTec, we would never consider another provider. If and when the time comes for a new deck, you better believe we will call them first. They are not the lowest cost provider, but what we got after completion of the job was worth it.

2 years after hiring Decktec to design and build a new deck, I can emphatically say it is the best money I ever spent on my house. Decktec is extremely professional. The deck looks amazing and everyone who visits our house comments on what a spectacular deck we have. I use Decktec's annual service and they do a tremendous job maintaining the deck as well. It's always a pleasure dealing with Adam when scheduling deck maintenance. They produce high quality custom decks. Decktec is definitely not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and I have never regretted this investment, even for a moment.

Everything went very well! They used excellent materials and a very skilled carpenter! Everyone had been with the company for years, and this was a fast and straight-forward job that they completed on budget and on time! We couldn't be happier!

The DeckTec folks did everything very well, were always on time and always did what they said they would do. They were nice people and a pleasure to work with. Excellent job.

There are plenty of deck builders out there, but DeckTec was the only one that I felt took the time to understand my needs (which changed somewhat during the design process. Eric helped me get an idea of what was possible, not only by walking the area with me but also showing me ideas and pictures of finished decks, -and- came up with a creative way to manage my need to not have the rail up against the window (a built-in planter). It didn't take long to reject the other vendors, not because the others were bad in any way, but simply because DeckTec brought creativity and options. We went through three or four different variations of the layout, then I had to decide more things like rail type, and wood vs. composite. Eric lent me a whole box of different types of wood and composite brands, and I left them out on a warm sunny day so I could see for myself why composite is the wrong choice for a "barefoot" deck, and I went with redwood with metal posts. The building crew was friendly but unobtrusive (as much as is possible when there's demo and building work going on. Charlie was the lead, and answered all my questions. After installation, a couple of the boards split and Decktec was quick to replace them. The net result is a beautiful asymmetric deck with a built-in seating area, and more usable space than I had before, even though the deck is actually slightly smaller..

Very professional.  Respected our wishes, constructed deck as requested and worked efficiently as weather permitted.  Some concerns with original material so they came back, replaced damaged material and re-stained those materials.  Always cooperative and considerate of our schedules.  Would definitely recommend them to others.

My initial meetings with Steve Sparhawk were very professional as he told me about how long his company was in business, the fact that he only uses Decktec employees who provide "unsurpassed quality", guarantees "complete customer satisfaction" and had binders of photos from previous jobs to show my wife and I. He warned us his company was very busy and to get in their queue I needed to sign the proposal and pay them 30% of the total project that day! Reluctantly I did...  They started 12 days later with the patio pavers and I again had to pay them another 30% of the total (60% paided BEFORE ANY WORK WAS DONE! The paver installation went smooth as Rueben worked very hard taking his time to ensure everything was lined up correctly. Prior to the start of the wood portion of the deck, a very large truck showed up with the materials. The driver was alone and backed up next to my house where the weight of the truck cracked the concrete of my driveway. Just as the driver was about to cut the strap allowing all the materials to fall off the truck on to rocks below, I asked him if he needed a hand and I proceeded to assist him with unloading the truck. The next crew arrived within a couple of days where the foreman, the carpenters, and I went over the plans for the deck. The instructions were to keep the existing Trex materiel, to re-use since Trex stopped making that color and to use darker Trex boards for the steps. The work started and the next day when I came out to see how things were going, I noticed they had removed several of the original boards but they were no where in sight.  I asked them about it and they immediately called their office only to learn the boards has been discarded! They apologized, and said they would have to use more of the darker Trex material than what I wanted, I had no choice but to agree so the project could proceed. After the crew finished, they cleaned up and left. I then inspected the deck only to find several quality issues, a board going down to the steps was 1/4 inch higher than the rest, there was a gap in the corner of the steps. I also noticed I the new darker Trex boards didn't match probably because they were purchased at different times. I also noticed the corner of the paver stone now had a huge gap. I knew they were coming back to finish and stain the deck so I waited....after 10 days of not hearing from them I contacted them and spoke to Adam Guilford, Service Manager who send me an email with stain choices and I responded the next day and was told he would contact me next week to set up a time to come out to finish the stain and look at the quality issues. When I didn't hear from him the next week, I followed up with an email and was told "they had to let a crew go and were backed up". In the end the deck was completed to my satisfaction

Steve, the owner, personally evaluated our situation. He made a special effort to get to us soon after we called to ask for someone to come and look at our deck and provide a solution and cost estimate. He accommodated our work schedule by meeting with us at 7:00 am. From the first meeting, everything Decktec did was first rate. They were able to start our job earlier than expected and the work was excellent. They had a difficult design to work with because we wanted the original design of  the deck duplicated, which has many angles . After the construction was complete, they washed, sanded and stained the old and new sections and made the effort to match old and new. We were not entirely satisfied with the consistency of the color on the new section. They came out promptly to evaluate it and agreed that it wasn't right, probably due to the heat when the finish was applied, so they did it over at no charge. I have rarely experienced customer focused attitudes at the level that everyone I interfaced with at Decktec exhibited.

Their price was in line with other contractors we found on AngiesList and decided to go with them because of the good reviews.  The crews showed up when they said they would and were friendly, but overall we are not incredibly pleased with the quality of the job. 







For $660 to powerwash, sand, and re-finish a 150 SF deck, we expected a higher standard of service.  We have trees above the deck, and therefore have some debris that had collected in the spaces in between the deck boards and on the steps. This should have been something that power washing would easily clean up, but after the job was finished the debris was still there and I was left having to scrape out this material myself with a coat hanger.  Also, the stain was applied very quickly and hastily.  Walking on the deck now you can see just below the walking surface of the boards where the stained part meets the original part, leaving very noticeable lines in the gap between the boards where the stain was not applied.  They also appear to have skipped staining the supporting beams for the deck - which are only 4 pieces 2' from the ground to the deck.

We had used Decktec Outdoor Design, Inc. before, my husband won't use them again. He felt like the product they've used wasn't that great and the color didn't last, the stain kind of came off and about staining the top of the Charlotte's and that's supposed to be done, it was an ordeal. I don't know the conversation that Barry had with the ... guys, I mean they came back, they got resolved, that Barry's like nowhere we're using them again. We've used them actually for a couple of years. We just felt like the product wasn't as good and response wasn't as good and it was an argument and last year our deck was like $2300 or $2400, I mean it's an expensive proposition to maintain that back so we won't use them again.

My experience with them went fine and they were very good.  The concerned person explained everything very well.

This could not have gone any better.  I dealt with Jeremy and Tom on a daily basis and they were great.  At the end of everyday they made sure that everything was cleaned up nicely and that they were ready to go for the next day. I also dealt with Steve and Vince and both were a delight to work with.  They gave all of the information that i needed to know what was going on as well as they were there overseeing the job.  I cannot say enough good things about this company or the job that they did.  I am very pleased with the results and glad that I found them on the list.

The experience was good. They did good work and they were quick. They were neat. They did a good job for a reasonable price. They were very professional. They did what they said they were going to do. They were solid as far as a company. The people that set up the job were very responsive and they were good to work with. There were no surprises and everything worked the way it was supposed to.

The two DeckTec employees arrived on time (or earlier) and worked extremely diligently for the entire job, which took about three days to complete.  They even had a light set-up so they could continue working after sunset.  The power wash, sanding and staining all went well, and the guys even re-set all screws in the deck by hand prior to staining.  The deck now looks almost new, with a beautiful natural transparent redwood stain.

The fit and finish of the completed job is beautiful. The workers were very knowledgeable and efficient. All the way from getting an estimate to prompt beginning and end to the job and the final product, this company earned my highest rating. Excellent all around.
