To everyone that Mark Vargas stole money from, Mark is now operating under Flatirons Custom Construction listed in Boulder, CO.

Mark Vargas was hired over a year ago to rebuild my home after a devastating fire. He completely mismanaged my two payments to him. He fired his entire crew for disputes over pay. He failed to do the required inspections per the building permit requirements. His communication isn't poor, it's non-existent. I supplied him with two men to help and he immediately pulled "my men" off the job to repair a deck in Boulder. My plans called for "pre engineered struts". Mark lied to me about their delivery and instead had a handyman build struts in the backyard. Mark rarely visited the job site and when he did, he was only there for a few minutes. Mark would have his mother deliver lumber rather than have it delivered by the lumber company. Mark would lie to the crew on when they were going to get paid. In my opinion, he is totally incompetent. I am considering filing a law suit under the Colorado Elder Abuse statute. Lou Hughes

They lied about getting permits and doing inspections that they claimed they did do. They also failed to pay their subcontractors, who are now coming after us when we payed Vargas for that and even more of the work that they had yet to do, and ultimately had to re-do.

Where do I begin? Original workers either ''quit'' or were ''fired'' depending on whom one spoke with. Then the ''fun'' began. It was to take a week; it took over 4 weeks. I had nothing but a bare frame which I had to navigate 10x a day to access my back yard (at the end of summer) for 2 wks. They demanded payment every 2 minutes, even before it was finished, even though I had paid more than 1/2 upon original contract signing. I had to ask and ask for mistakes to be fixed, they were, but it took a long, long time. They showed up 1 or 2 days a week. Always with excuse after excuse. The final looks ok. If I hadn't insisted on things being corrected, they'd have left them they way they were, with no shame. They've said they were going to do some ''extra'' work that wasn't in the contract and needless to say, that isn't done. I'll be shocked if it is.. There are black stamp marks on a few pcs of lumber; they didn't even sand that off. A tiny thing, but when I'm paying $1000s, I'd expect things like that to be taken care of. I am fairly easy-going but they made me be a ''bad cop''; I hate that role but I had to play it to get things done. I had saved up for this project for many, many years and was disappointed to have to fight as I did to get it done. It was a long, hard slog, and quite unpleasant. Though, as I say, it does look nice, finally. Could have done with much less head-banging to have it done.
