No weed barrier was installed as per our order, since the owner felt that it wouldn't be helpful - despite our feeling that it would. There was always some "expert" roadblock given to deter us from what we wanted. Nor did we receive planting grade soil on the berm as per our order.
Instead, the workers deposited the sand and breeze/clay from between and under the old flagstone that they removed, placing it into the berm, making the space a very unworkable planting area. A few bags of soil were then spread on top of what had become an inhospitable medium for planting - and while I physically observed the workmen opening these bags and knew exactly how much was used, the owner argued with me that the amount was adequate, even though just a slight scraping of the surface of the soil revealed the red clay clumping underneath. When I demonstrated this for the owner, his response was that the clay would "dissolve" - which it obviously is not in the nature of clay to do. We spent the spring of 2014 digging the clay out of the ground so that we could amend the soil properly.
In addition, we were pressured into installing a drip system that we really should have been more adamant in refusing, especially since Waterwise simply put down a thick hose and told us we would need to secure the smaller drips and place them where we wanted. The system remains unused, and I am sorry that I was talked into accepting something that I felt strongly we didn't want.
This spring, we spent additional funds with another landscape company to "level" out the flagstones that over the winter
became very uneven. While Waterwise indicated in their contract that they guaranteed their work for one year, the owner's refusal to see/agree that the soil he provided was not adequate or what was promised at the time the work was actually being done gave us little confidence that his company would address the issues with the flagstone properly, and hence we take responsibility for not calling them to do so.
