The reason I marked that I am going to try another provider next time is this. I made it very clear when I went in that I didn't want them to try to sell me other services. In fact, I told them I was not using my previous service place because that I was looking for a provider who would give me straight recommendations on what really needed doing and what did not. I explained that I was trying them out based on Angie's list recommendations and was doing so because my previous mechanic had talked me into to some expensive services that were not needed. Yet, the front desk agent who was one of the owners persisted in trying to sell me a bunch of other services - other fluid changes, etc. These are items that were clearly above and beyond the service I had carefully defined. Some of them are standard among later manufacturer's service recommendations but further out in miles. Yes, the oil looked slightly off color but not bad. And if pushed, he admitted it was not urgent. But it required quite a bit of push back on my part. I don't think I can trust them to give me honest advice should a case arise where I really needed their advice. I will try another of Angie's list recommended mechanics next time.
"To be more specific we recommend a 4x4 service by the fact that the fluid was dark and by [member name removed]'s own words that he had not done it when it was recommended by his own owners manual. We also recommend rear shocks because they were leaking. We recommend that he keep an eye on his front brakes because while doing a safety inspection on vehicle we noticed they were getting low. At Genuine Automotive we will always do a safety inspection on vehicles. That is our job. We have no problem with [member name removed] not taking care of his car. We did not try to "force" any service on him. We simply informed him of problems and prepared accurate estimates. Please don't bring your vehicle do Genuine Automotive if you do not want a thorough job done."
We left and the next day my husband got a call (I listed his number as a secondary contact) telling us what we had expected, that is was the water pump and they gave me a quote of $300ish for the pump, fluid, and belt. I told him to do it and checked up on the other items I wanted fixed and he said they would first try to diagnose a problem we occasionally were having with starting the car and would do the other items as well.
I ended up having to call back two different times to check up on the car and where they were at with fixing it. Instead of checking for the starting problem and also doing the other items they were only checking for the starting problem so I constantly had to ask, did you change the oil? What about the main gasket, etc. After a somewhat snotty call from me they said, ok, well we'll have your car ready tomorrow (this is after I waited all day to call them assuming that they were getting everything done). I was a little perturbed at this since if I would've called them earlier to check-in I would've had my car back a day earlier.
Two hours later my husband got a call that the car was ready for pick up so we ran over and got it - a pleasant surprise. In total we paid almost $600 for the services rendered. Compared to my other auto mechanic experiences this was rather pleasant and I felt their prices were fair. I would return in the future but know to keep a close "eye" on the status of my repairs.
UPDATE: I received a call for GA a few weeks ago addressing this review. The gentleman was kind and concerned about my experience and I greatly appreciate his taking the time to address my concerns. He was apologetic about the service I received and assured me that this is not how they normally operate and was concerned that this had happened to me. I do feel better about the overall situation and like I said before this would not deter me from using their services in the future. They got the job done and since then my jeep hasn't been giving me any trouble so I am a happy customer.
