I got a call from a tenant; who said that she had water in her basement and didn't know where it was coming from. She stated she had friends helping her get the furniture out of the room. I contacted my service guy and he said they do not do water damage. My tenant's friend, Greg Cleverly stayed around to see if my guy could do the work and when he could not Greg offered to help clean up the water; and I asked him if he would at least take out the sump pump and install a new one with an alarm. I was then out of the country for 5 days and when I came back I found out that he was there for 8 hours with a helper for 4 hours and all they did was water extraction and removal of the carpet and baseboard, and put fans into the home. He then returned on Sat to check on the fans and then on again on Monday to check on them again and remove the fans. They then disposed of the carpet and baseboards which I had asked them not to do so I could look at them. They never did replace the sump pump like I asked. They then billed me for 7436.21. I have been in contact with him for a while trying to work this all out. Our attorneys have been involved and it went to small claims court and the judge looked at the bill and told them they had double billed me at 7436.21 and they did not deny this. The judge knocked the bill down to 4062.00 plus court costs. I saw them after court and asked them if they would be willing to lower the bill and work with me; and they responded that the reason they charged me so much was they wanted to get my attention.
"(member name removed) tenant had a water damage situation. The tenant called (member name removed) and she told her that she had a guy that would fix things. After she found out her guy wasn’t qualified to take care of the situation (member name removed) told her tenant to "take care of the water damage. I trust your judgement”. She also asked the tenant who’s husband name is Greg, if he could install a sump pump. The tenants had a sump pump and Greg, the tenant, installed it.” When all was said and done (member name removed) found out that her insurance company wouldn't pay for the damage. She then said that our bill was too high and she wasn't going to pay it. The Service Guys is IICRC Certified, which is a water mitigation and restoration certification. We removed the water, carpet and pad because they were contaminated with gray water. The renter was in contact with (member name removed) insurance company and the adjuster said it was unsafe for the carpet to sit in the garage and should be disposed of. For months we tried to work with her, lowering our original bill significantly, but she wouldn't accept it. We did have to take(member name removed) to small claims court to get paid. Her doubling the bill accusation came from us showing the judge exactly how we calculated her bill. We showed receipts from the company that we rented some equipment to dry out her property correctly. The normal industry standard price to charge customers is double our rental price. Which is exactly the same price that the water mitigation company we rented the equipment from would of charged any customer, but she didn't understand that. After court(member name removed) then wanted to take the price that we had offered many months earlier and we explained that that offer was no longer valid and we would take the courts judgement cost. The judgement was made on 11/3/13 and she finally paid it off in February 4, 2014. The "get my attention" comment didn't happen, but she did let us know that she would smear our reputation any time she could. Greg Cleverly is no longer affiliated with The Service Guys in any way but this incident did not have any part in that change."
