Heating and Air Conditioning Service
During the summer of 2011 we had Air Mechanical work on a couple of our commercial rooftop HVAC units. They were relatively quick to respond to those service calls and were prompt. In the Fall, after several failed attempts at repairing the AC side on one particular unit they recommended replacing the compressor. We authorized that job and they completed the work after a short waiting period for parts and they were paid in full. The weather cooled off soon thereafter, our needs switched to heating, and we had no chance to discover that the AC side was still not working. It wasn't until the first hot spell in the Spring of 2012 that our Facilities Manager discovered the problem.
We called back Air Mechanical to diagnose the issue and after several visits involving changing technicians the prognosis was that we needed another compressor. Of course, we suggested that it should be covered under warranty. The technician informed us that the original repair had been performed by an employee that no longer worked at Air Mechanical. He also stated that they would initiate that replacement and contact their vendor or the manufacturer as necessary regarding the warranty.
At that point Air Mechanical fell off the end of the face of the earth. We placed several calls requesting the status of the repair, each time leaving messages with a receptionist or office manager. Each time we were promised a call back from the technician. This went on for several weeks. When we finally did get a call from a technician we got a promise that he would be out in the next couple of days. No one came by.
When no one came by or contacted us we started calling again. The pattern of calling, leaving a message, and waiting for some
one to call back repeated itself. After a couple of weeks we insisted to speak with the owner (Tom?) and again had to wait several days without getting a call back. We again called and finally the office manager said that the owner had been apprised of the situation and he or another technician would be coming by in the next couple of days. In the mean time, I called another vendor for a second opinion. This vendor informed us that the compressor was damaged beyond repair as a direct result of being installed incorrectly and that the entire AC side of the unit was likely trashed.
With this information in hand I expected to have a spirited discussion with the owner to resolve the discrepancy, What I received was a bid in the mail suggesting the repair could be done at market pricing. I asked the owner of our company his opinion on how to proceed at that point and we decided to just wash our hands and drop all dealings with Air Mechanical.
Bottom Line: Run Around. No honor of warranty on either materials or workmanship. Likely more damage done than good. Questionable ethics. Horrible customer service and follow through.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
When we first bought our house, we had a general service to make sure everything was in good shape. They did a good job with that and tuned everything up nicely. My furnace stopped working about a year later, and the technician that they sent out just started replacing parts, including circuit boards and relays, with me paying the parts and labor costs. Some of those parts had to be ordered, so I was without a furnace during that time. After several unsuccessful attempts, I was told that they had fired that technician due to poor performance. Another technician came in and told me that parts had been replaced that didn't need to be replaced, so they refunded some of the costs. I give them credit and appreciation for honesty and good ethic. Anyone can have personnel problems, and they did a good job of owning up to it and dealing with it fairly. When I first tried to use my A/C this summer, it didn't work. They came out and found that it had been miswired. They blamed it on the technician who had since been fired and didn't charge us for the service call. Unfortunately, it failed to work again shortly after that. They came out and said it was a loose wire nut, and we got charged for that service call. I've lost confidence with them at this point. They should have made sure everything was in good working order when they came out right after they fired their technician. These repeated callbacks are a pain to schedule, and they have started to cost me money. Since I wasn't the one who left the wire nut loose, I shouldn't have to pay for it. At times, I also found it difficult to work with their front office. Sometimes the lady at the front office was a bit gruff, and I always heard the story about how they had more people scheduled than could be actually seen that day. I like the smaller operations if they accomplish good work and good service. In this case, I came away with the impression that it was a smaller operation that didn't have good staff and was overbooked. At this point, I'm willing to pay more for better service.
