United Roofing & Gutters Inc

United Roofing provided an estimate for replacing our hail damaged roof. They were competitive with three other estimates I got - not the cheapest but near the middle. We had one sit-down visit with their sales rep - showed us they could match the shingles and would touch up paint flashing if we'd supply paint. They could not give us an estimate about what the permit would cost (ended up $900) but they had done 3-4 similar jobs recently down the street (I should have suspected something). Still we went ahead. Shingles were stacked up on the house a couple weeks later - never called or anything. Those shingles sat there for three weeks while we called and tried to find out when they'd start - no returned calls from United. United, of course sub-contracted this job out - they made a nice tidy profit for having the name and knowing they could get a sub-contractor. I wouldn't be so disappointed if they would at least let us know what was happening. I have to say the sub-contractor did a nice job - they worked steadily for 5-6 days - but seemed bewildered when i kept telling them I had paint for them to do the touchup. Never did use it. They finished one day in early December - but said they'd run out of shingles and needed just a bit more to finish. They may have come back - I don't know, their tools are gone but I've again tried going through United to see if the job is really done or not and they still have not called me back. This is lame - especially for a $26000 job! I could understand if it was a small contracting job but this is a lot of money. I'm assuming were done - haven't settled the final bill but I already feel pretty ripped off by these guys. Its a lack of concern or professional courtesy or both.
