RUTHERFORD CABINETRY AND WOODWORKING

We bid this project out to three cabinet makers. Rutherford was the lowest bidder by far. He is young and just starting his own business. We got his name from a store that supplies fine hardwoods. The project was unusual in two respects. First, the drawers that the cabinets were to hold are very shallow and very wide, and they can weigh 50 pounds. Second, the sectional sofa that the cabinets were to surround has a couple of odd angles. T.J. came to the house to make an estimate. He was prompt, and he immediately understood the nature of the project. He worked out a very nice design and came back to us with an estimate within a few days. We looked at his website which had photos of some of his projects. The website could use some work, but we think it was done for him by a friend who is not a professional web designer. The projects in the photos had a bit of a "homemade" look, so we asked if we could see some actual samples. He invited us to his home and his mom's home, and the pieces he showed us were very nicely designed and showed very good workmanship and attention to detail. His bid was a little more than half that of the other two bids we got, which were from more established companies. We liked T.J. so much that we thought we'd take a chance on a fresh face. He completed the job in about four weeks, which is astonishing considering he did it in addition to a regular job. We are extremely pleased with the results. At every point during the project, T.J. was on time and very professional. Whenever he was to come to the house, he always called before he left his shop to let us know exactly when to expect him. Now we are looking around to see if we can have him build some more things for us.
