Jonathan Engleberg

I had worked with Jonathan as my agent when I purchased a home 5 years ago and I had a good experience. I convinced my husband to give him a chance at selling our condo. Based on my past experience working with Jonathan, I expected a certain level of responsiveness; this was not apparent for the duration of this contract. We had renters in the condo which was a challenge for Jonathan in marketing it, but the lease was almost up and we planned to leave the condo empty when they moved and have it professionally staged. We understood that it would be costly to both keep the place empty and to have it staged and it was literally taking weeks to get him to just respond to a simple email regarding the staging and showings, etc. Once vacant, we bent over backwards to make the place look fantastic so he could sell the property, but he showed so no sense of urgency. We would send emails and it would take several days for him to respond. Jonathan reported that there were several showings but oddly enough there were never any business cards left behind from the showing agents. We found this very strange. We also noticed he had never left marketing fliers for buyers to take home. We even confirmed with the renters that he had never left any. He was not marketing the property the way he'd promised us. I sent him the "come to Jesus" email about his issues and he responded that he would shape up. He said he'd take new pictures of the staged condo and he would have fliers out ASAP. Pictures were supposed to be taken on Monday. Tuesday came and there were no pictures posted. He said the pictures he saw were not up to par and he was going to have them redone and posted the next day along with the flyers. We went by the property on Sunday and there were a couple of cards but no flyers. That was he last straw. The marketing promised was not delivered. We terminated our contract with Jonathan and we found another agent who we signed with who specializes in selling condos in that particular neighborhood. Once terminated, Jonathan was very responsive. He originally terminated our listing as Withdrawn. Then for some reason, three hours later he went back in and changed it to Expired, which apparently triggers other realtors to call and try and get you to list the property with them. I guess he wanted to be sure we'd find someone else. I wish we would have experienced that same level of responsiveness during the time we were signed with him. We wish Jonathan well but, based on this experience, we would not recommend him.
