Very nice man in the beginning but his work is less than professional,
less than industry standards in my opinion. I HAVE PICTURES. He sanded,
PARTIALLY filled the gaps, and then put the polyurethane down with
debris left on the floors. He had to come back (he was not happy about
it) he re-sanded, left 8 inches out from the walls un-sanded, I asked
him about it, he hand sanded around the edges, leaving scratches, then
when he was ready to put the polyurethane down, I asked him about the
dust and debris on the floor and he said that is standard for the
industry to leave it there. I said really? He stormed off and said
call me when you are ready for me to finish. Will there is no way I
would let him put polyurethane down again over debris. I ended up
cleaning the floors, leaving no debris or dust, per the polyurethane
directions, and put the coat of the poly down myself. I asked him for a
50% refund and he has yet to respond to my message. Just be careful
out there. Watch the work and read up on the industry standards before
they do the work so that you know what they should and should not be
doing. I actually found chunks of material on the floor that he was
just going to leave, and he said that was standard for the industry. I
would not use this hardwood flooring "specialist" again

Philip assured us he did quality work and we were reassured that according to his website, American Hardwood Floor Company, was  "a family owned company, serving the Denver Metro area since 1968." Our basic requirement was a smooth floor that blended in both in stain coloring and in texture with our original oak hardwood flooring  immediately adjacent to the kitchen flooring. We thought this was a fairly simple job requirement but, as it turned out, we had to keep pushing him to resand our floor a total of 3 times in order to have it done properly.
The first time he sanded the floor and then applied stain and sealer, it took more than twice as long as he said it would for the sealer to dry. We were astonished to find actual hunks of debris embedded in the "finished" floor, which felt like sandpaper when we ran our hands over it and indicated that he had not done a totally inadequate job of sanding and vacuuming up the debris before applying stain and sealer.
We told him we were very dissatisfied with the extemely rough finished texture and the globs of embedded debris now sealed into the floor. He said he would fix it and sent his assistant who resanded it, stained it and sealed it. This time, the hunks and globs of debris were gone, but the texture still felt like rough sandpaper compared to the smooth finish on the hallway oak flooring and it was obvious to us that it still had not been sanded and vacuumed properly.
Again, we called  him back and this time, he argued with us and said the rough texture after sealing was "normal" and would  "wear off with foot traffic." We said that our original oak flooring was completely smooth after it was finished and did not have to "wear smooth with foot traffic." After much argument he agreed to return. For a third time, he resanded, stained and sealed the floor and this time it was smooth and finally met our very basic requirement. However having to have the floor refinished 3 times and having him defend what was obviously an extremely poor job of refinishing was a very unpleasant experience and we would never use  American Hardwood Floor Company again or recommend the company to anyone.

I had to call the owner back out to finish/retouch the job and even after that, I had to pay another company to re-do the floor finishing and fill gaps between the wood, which cost me less than my original payment to American Hardwood. I could have had the job done for about a-half of what I ended up paying if I'd used the second company from the start and not had all the headaches.

I found him on Angie's List. Philip was very good and I liked him a lot. He was excellent. I recommended him to my son and daughter-in-law and they used him also. He was very conscientious. He was very protective of his floor. Once he finished the job, he wanted to make sure I didn't step on it until it was ready. He was a lovely man; very polite and nice. He has a master's degree in accounting and was a certified accountant on 17th St. for many years, until he took over his fathers business. He was punctual, responsive, and professional.

Outstanding experience!

Philip (Owner) arrived for the estimate appointment promptly, gave an honest assessment of our wrecked floors and provided a reasonable solution at a good price.  On the day of service Philip arrived promptly, and finished the job on time.  Our floors look wonderful and we have already referred this business to several friends.  We would definitely use this company in the future!
