Construction Manager Service,

About us

Veracity Construction is an award winning custom home builder in Durango. As a full service General Contractor we will work with you through the entire building process from closing on land to putting in the last light bulb. We have a 7 man crew and complete all excavation, carpentry and tile work in house while sub contracting out specialty trades such as plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Our homes won the Parade of Homes Peoples Choice for homes under $750.000 in 2015 and 2017. Houses typicality take 8-14 months to build and cost from $175.00 to $225 per Square foot. We also do remodels and additions that start at $100,000.00. Occasionally we can squeeze in a deck or two in the summer between jobs or a tile job or two in the winter. So if you have a small job it does not hurt to ask if you are flexible on timing. We also have 2 backhoes and a skid steer and do a variety of dirt work such as: site prep, demo, septics, driveways and roads.

Friendly; honest, and quality work in minimal time. Came in under budget, which was very important for me.

We had a terrible experience with Veracity. We hired them to build a home, modify a structure, and install a separate modular home (originally to be installed by another company, but Veracity said they would do a better job). Work was complete by August 2018, but we still have problems in December 2020. The owner of Veracity was unreliable and unprofessional. He rarely showed up on time (if at all) and usually took days or weeks to return communication. Several things were not built correctly because he rarely wrote anything down, and some of these things were never corrected. We paid more than they quoted us, and we have spent over 150 hours and thousands of dollars fixing Veracity mistakes. My remarks are limited to the worst problems with Veracity, but I have documented far more issues than will fit into this review. Veracity took more than three months to prepare the modular home for move-in. Other modular installers were shocked by this, citing two weeks as the norm. Our previous modular home was installed by a different company that also took less than two weeks. The soil around the foundation of the modular home settled within the first year. These low spots cause water to seep through the foundation, and standing water to collect under our home, slowly degrading the foundation. Veracity will not fix this issue, blaming it on landscapers who added 1-2 inches of soil to our yard. Two other construction companies inspected the issue and agree it was due to poor work done by Veracity. Concrete installed by Veracity shifted badly after 14 months. Concrete in our dog kennel heaved upward in the center, tilting toward the house and allowing additional water into the foundation. Veracity was notified of this in March 2019, but their subcontractor did not inspect the problem until September 2019, and he denied fault. Veracity then sent out their own crew member, who said rebar was never installed in any of the concrete pads. He blamed the heaving of the concrete on the subcontractor and/or our sprinkler system, also denying fault. We asked two other construction companies for second opinions. Both were appalled by the concrete, citing poor workmanship as the problem, not our sprinklers. One said winning a lawsuit against Veracity over the concrete would be easy while the other said the workmanship was criminal. Veracity committed to fixing the concrete but wanted to wait until 2020. I tried to schedule the repair in August 2020, but Veracity strung me along for a few more weeks then stopped returning my communications. In January 2020 all the water on the property stopped running. The electrical line Veracity installed for the good pump had become faulty. Veracity took no responsibility for the issue beyond taking a few phone calls. They used bare, direct-bury cable for the 250 foot run of electrical line with no conduit. Upon digging up sections of the line we found many cuts in the insulation, and a few sections encased in chunks of concrete. Veracity also spliced the cable along its length at least once; the factory printing on one end of the cable is different than the other end. We spent over $3000 and many hours of labor diagnosing the problem, re-trenching and burying new wire and conduit. Veracity also failed to connect the gray water drain for the modular home, despite several warnings that a pipe was leaking in the crawl space. Workers from another company happened to go under the house later, telling us that a small lake of putrid gray water had accumulated over the previous two months. Veracity said I should call a cleaning company myself to fix this problem. I got a bill for $1300 from the cleaning company and demanded that Veracity pay the bill, but it took them four months and many arguments before they finally did.
Response from Veracity Construction
"Anthony, I understand your frustrations with owning and living in a mobile home. However, I would like to remind you that while Veracity Construction completed several aspects on your mobile home such as decks, porches, roofing, siding and tile. It was made clear that Veracity Construction was not the general contractor overseeing the construction, installation and finish of your mobile home. Please refer to your mobile home manufacture and the contractors you hired to complete the setup of your home for warrantee issues. If you have any issue with the decks, porches, roofing, siding or tile I am happy to help out with those issues. Veracity Construction builds quality custom homes and does not set up or install mobile homes. Myself, employees, subcontractors and suppliers are all proud of the custom home we build for your mother in law. I will never claim that building custom homes nothing will ever go wrong, but when they do we make every effort possible to fix them in a reasonable timeframe. I will admit that there was a minor roof leak and the local reputable roofing subcontractor worked diligently to fix it immediately, furthermore the painting repair as a result of the damage was completed within a couple of days. This 2500 square foot custom home came in at $180.25 per square foot. This price also included building permits, septic permits and a septic system for two homes. Furthermore the house had many upgrades found in high end homes that cost substantially more including; all spray foam insulation, in-floor heat, Air Conditioning, custom cabinets and quartz countertops, light tubes, timber frame covered rear deck, custom tile and paint."
