This was a insurance repair job. They were recommended by our insurance company. Picking out the carpet was easy enough. When it came time to install they kept calling us wanting a date that we couldn't give at that point because there was other work to finish in the basement first. We finally were able to set a time and the installation staff arrived on time. The installer chipped some new tile and when I pointed it out he had no comment. I fixed it with extra caulking. A few days later we noticed that the carpet between two rooms didn't seem to match. I finally realized that the nap was wrong in one of the rooms. I called and it took several weeks for someone to come out and look at it. Then it took several more weeks to set up the installation. There was a seam in a prominent area of the room that was not sealed properly and the vacuum pulled a very long snag. I called and it took, again, several weeks for someone to come out and look at it, and several more weeks and a number or phone calls to get it repaired. Seemed like once the initial work was done, the follow up for the problems just wasn't there. We recently had more flooding in the same basement and we did not use Veterans.

We went to Veterans Carpet One in the recommendation of a friend and the good reviews on Angie's List. We had been looking for vinyl plank flooring for our kitchen, nook and dining room. They carry Invincible brand, which is available only at Carpet One. It is a floating floor, waterproof, wood look, quiet, some texture so is not slick, and looks fabulous. Walt allowed us to take a plank home (as well as an entire board of tile we were checking out for a backsplash}, then came by the house a few days later to pick them up and give us an estimate. The flooring had to be ordered, so it took several weeks. We agreed on an installation date (2 days) and the installers were on time, competent and a pleasure to have in our house. They finished by noon the second day, but we were able to continue using the kitchen the entire time.

State Farm contacted Mr. Feiner, and he did a great job getting in touch with me. I am hard to reach, but between Mr. Feiner and his associate, they made a great effort and we finally made contact. Then Mr. Feiner worked even harder to come up with a time that he could come to: assess what needed to be done take a sample to match the old carpet meet with me to show me samples of similar carpet and help me choose a replacement. He really did a nice job and was friendly throughout, even when I'd forgotten a few days in a row to send the fax to authorize the replacement work. The end result was very nicely done. The only glitch in the whole thing was during the installation. I'd let Mr. Feiner know that my tenant would be in the unit, and he'd said the carpet installation would only take a half-day, in and out, so the tenant wouldn't be disturbed. But... the half-day started late due to another job, and ran into an unexpected glitch due to the flooring, so my tenant returned from work to find a job half-done, the heat at 80 degrees (to aid drying) and the basement saturated with the strong smell of some kind of solvent. There was no note saying what was going on. While my tenant was there, the installer returned. Now at least he knew what was going on, but he had returned straight from work because he was getting sick and just wanted to relax or sleep, and now the installer had to have him the unit until the job was completed. My tenant emailed me from a cafe where he was waiting. I wasn't happy to hear what happened, because I'd given the installer my telephone number to reach me if he had any problems. I called Veterans Carpet One and talked to the installation supervisor, who was pretty unsympathetic, more or less telling me that well, "things come up." Yes, things come up, but that's when you CALL and INFORM. At the very least, you leave notes when you leave a place with work half-finished. I gave my tenant a refund on rent. Stuart Feiner called me later and gave me an apology. He let me know that they had had a meeting about the situation. I explained that the problem was that I had not been informed that thre was a delay and that no note was left for my tenant. One call would have made the problem acceptable. In summary, at the end, the result was professional. I'd hire Stuart Feiner again, but I'd ask him to use a different installer.
