Poor cleanup, unprofessional demeanor, no response for adjustments and cleanup; bad environmental practices for water resources in the area.See above for details.
Description of Work: A worn out driveway with cracking needed repairs. This was a wide double driveway with a shrub in the middle. The contractor and helpers used picks to remove the top of the asphalt connecting to the garage as they said this was necessary for a good seal. The terms of the agreement included a 2 inch cap on the old driveway base, sealcoat over this, and removal of all debris. They did one half and then the other half as I needed to go to appointments during the work and needed one half of the driveway open. The work was hurriedly accomplished in roughly five hours with breaks as they went down the street to do "a small job" while I was out at appointments. The original agreement also included paying the next day. As the hurry became more apparent, the work got sloppier. The final driveway appearance is somewhat bumpy, but as we inspected the job, the main contractor assured us that in a month the evenness would improve. He assured us further that he would come back in 30 days if we were not happy and fix it. He expected and demanded payment when we finished the inspection. The signed work form included a five year warranty for the work. Everything seemed normal until I started to write the check. He wanted the check made out to him, Bart Gorman, not the company listed on the business card (which also stated they had been in business since 1975). I wrote the check, thinking that the assurances for adjustments in 30 days and the five year warranty were in writing and would support the work. We left to run an errand while they were cleaning up. BIG MISTAKE! The cleanup was aborted and we still have asphalt chunks in the yard and across the street on ditch property! Two days of calling for removal of the asphalt have not elicited anything but irate and unprofessional raging phone responses from the apparent owner, Pat. Additionally, a neighbor saw the cleanup crew throwing asphalt chunks in the ditch water to get rid of them! We're expected to clean this out now as well to preserve precious water for the ditch customers. This company should NOT be used under any circumstances unless you want unprofessional behavior, environmentally unsound practices, and empty promises!
