Don, the installer, was very good and professional as well. He made some changes to placement of the units, as Ed told us that he would, all with our consent, and after discussing the options with us, and making sure that we were completely comfortable with the work plan.
We would use Pasterkamp again without hesitation, and we plan to make them our first and only call when our boiler needs a check or repair.
When I called back later and asked for a different option he gave me one over the phone and advised me to write it down on the written estimate I had been provided earlier (Check 2). He also advised me on a rebate that was currently available from Xcel (Only estimator to do that)
I had wanted to get a Rheem RARL-037 JEZ, but was advised because I was going to put it with a Lennox heating unit that there might be communication issues between them and I would be better off with the Rheem 14AJM which was cheaper and provide equivalent efficiency since we don't live in a very humid enviroment (dual stage compressors are more useful in humid places)
I took a week to research the different models that were on my estimates Rheem 14AJM-, Lennox XC-17. Lennox 14ACX, Trane XR-15, Lennox XC-14. Discovered he was right with regard to the overkill with the dual stage compressor and the Rheem 14AJM actually was quieter 74db compared to the other units 76db for the Lennox 14ACX and 75db for Trane XR-15.
The warranty 10/10 (parts/compressor) was equivalent to what was being offered by the others. One of them offered a 10 yr on labor as well, but the Angie list reviews were marginal.
All my research indicated that the installation quality was critical to the performance of the system and I felt most comfortable with them and based on the other reviews of installations.
Installation day: Showed up promtly at 9 am as promised (check 4). Electrical sub showed up on time and gave me an estimate on replacing my existing panel with an upgraded 150amp panel (as I had requested earlier) His estimate was also middle of the road (compared to other estimates obtained separately)
Steve the AC installer laid down a sticky runner mat all the way down to the basement to avoid scuffing up the hardwood and tracking dirt down the carpeting (Check 3) Connecting plenum was replaced, installation was performed flawlessly. The unit was hooked up and the place cleaned up of all scraps of plastic, wire etc.( not one piece was left behind !)Left me with instructions, do's and don't of having an ac.
I would score them a 10/10 for overall performance. Absolutely flawless froms start to finish.
The unit is deathly quiet !!! I can hear my neighbour's unit over my own !! I would recommend their work without qualification
The installation was done very professionally. The installer was right on time, took care to protect all flooring from the front door all the way to the basement. He took his time removing the 35 year old furnace without creating any mess (that was left behind at least). Once the new furnace was in he took the time to review the features and teach me how to use the programmable thermostat. A separate licensed electrican was used to re-hook the electrical to the furnace. The city (Denver) inspector approved the installation with no issues. The scheduling of the inspection was doneby Pasterkamp and the final invoicing in payment was managed efficently and with no suprises.
Overall, a great, no-hassle experience.
